Pairing: Hiroki x Nowaki
-----------------------------------------------------------
     -"Yes, thank you, Professor"

Hiroki silently grunted as he listened to his colleagues ranting. This was about the tenth happy birthday-call he had received today, which  consisted of mainly his colleagues from the university and some of his pupils.

-"Are you gonna host a party? If so, count me in!"

-"I do think you know that I am not too fond of parties"

A loud and clear sigh was heard at the other end of the line.

-"Oh Kamijou, always so serious and stone-faced... Welp, gotta get back to work. Bye."

The line clicked as Miyagi had hung up. Hiroki shut his own phone and sighed.

He had been answering calls for the entire day, and he was getting sick of it.

"Although, there is one person whom I haven't heard anything from today.."

Nowaki had been working dubble shift at the hospital as his Senpai was sick at home today. Hiroki hadn't heard anything from him all day.

"He told me he'll be home at 9 today..."

Hopefully he'd keep that promise.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Hiroki soon bolted awake as a loud crash was heard from somewhere. He looked at the time.

21:10.

Nowaki should have been home ten minutes ago.

He looked out the window, and saw flashing lights in the direction of the hospital.

Afraid, Hiroki jumped off of the couch and proceeded to pull his jacket and shoes on, then practically flying through the door and down all the stairs.
-----------------------------------------------------------
As he arrived at a street a few blocks away from the hospital, Hiroki saw the ambulances and police cars. He also saw that a car had crashed right into a tree, it's windglas broken and the front cover completely mashed inwards.

And he saw a figure, laying on the ground a few feet away. It's twisted limbs were covered in blood, and a few ambulance men were trying to haul him onto the portable bed.

Hiroki slowly but steadily approached the scenery, as the figures features were getting clearer and clearer.

Dark hair, long and slim figure, halfly closed, grey eyes...

     -"N-Nowaki!"

A man in uniform turned his head towards him.

     -"Do you know him, sir?"

Hiroki was too shocked to give a proper answer. He just stared blankly at the scene in front of him.

Nowakis twisted legs, face covered in blood, his nearly lifeless eyes starring half-lided into oblivion.

Hiroki felt his pulse getting higher and faster with each second as he watched the men lift him up into the nearest ambulance. He had a craving, an urge to sprint to him, hold him in his arms, whisper sweet nothings into his ear. But his own shock-bound limbs wouldn't obey him, and soon the white car had disappeared with flashing lights and sirens blowing.
-----------------------------------------------------------
The next day, Hiroki decided to go check on him at the hospital.

As he arrived, he was soon led to an all white room with a bed at the far end of it. And on that bed layed the love of his own dear life.

The nurse left the two alone, not asking any questions. Good. Hiroki slowly approached the bed, where Nowaki was laying, half asleep. He glanced in his direction, a small and weak smile sweeping across his face.

     -"Good morning, Hiro-san."

Hiroki didn't answer, just stood there, looking at him.

-"Ah, no worries. I just got both legs blown out for awhile. They'll heal in no time."

Then, as if a thought suddenly struck him, Nowaki pointed towards the rack at the door, with his jacket and bag hanging off of it.

-"I almost forgot. Your birthday present is in the bag."

As if reluctant to leave Nowaki's side, Hiroki hardily made his way to the rack, carefully opening the grey and blue bag.

Inside was a small box, not any bigger than a tennis ball. He picked it up, opening it.

Inside was a beautiful, but simple ring. It was coated in glimmering gold with something neatly engraved on the outside. His own name.

-"I though, as you didn't resist the idea of us wearing rings..."

Hiroki stayed silent, admiring at the small object in the box.

-"B-but if you don't like it, I also bought you some books. It's the same books you borrowed to Akihiko."

A small hum escaped Hiroki's lips, as he silently said.

     -"Thank you, Nowaki."

As if Nowaki had heard him, he let his smile grow.

     -"Happy birthday, Hiro-san."
