„Hey, you, girl! We could use some help here!"
You needed a second to realise that you were meant, and only moved as the boy shouted at you again. You had seen him a few times now.
Apparently his greatest pleasure was ordering people around, and even though you couldn't even remember his name, you knew, that you didn't really like him. You didn't think many people did.
Someone should start and speak up to him, you thought, but you knew that there was no chance that you could do that. You were not exactly quick on the comeback.
So you just nodded, and trotted slowly towards him, ready to do whatever he wanted you to do. This was the best way to be left in peace. You didn't want to make a fuss.
„There we go", he sneered, and you would have really liked to kick him, but you knew that was a very bad idea. Instead you just looked past him.
„What can I do?"
„Here", he said, pointing at piles of wood, that were already bound together and some small logs, they had seemed to have dug out of the Earth earlier.
„We need all this", he said, and eyed you, before turning his head, and pointed at a tent on the other side of the Camp. „In there."
You gulped.
The tent was not exactly far away, but the bound branches could hardly be any larger and heavier looking.
„Did you understand?" The guy bent down to you, looking at you as if you would have been the biggest idiot that dared to walk on Earth.
You swallowed your anger, and also the question why he would even pile the wood here, if it had to be brought all the way over there anyway – probably just so he could boss someone around – and nodded. „Yes."
Without looking at him again, you walked over to the pile of wood, searching for one that looked like you could actually lift it.
You tried to raise one, but realised immediately, that you wouldn't be able to get this over to the tent. At least not without several breaks.
„Will you move?"
The sudden voice made you jump. You hadn't noticed that the brown-haired guy had stepped behind you.
„I-", you started, but he didn't let you speak. Instead he lifted the bunch closest to him – unfortunately not the smallest – and held it out to you.
„Move", he ordered, handing it over. Instantly you had to bend your knees.
It was incredible heavy.
Nonetheless you clenched your jaw and started to take little steps towards the tent. You were halfway there, and your arms burned like they were on fire. Not far anymore, you told yourself, but not much later, the weight had become too much for you, and you had to put the bunch down. Panting heavily you looked back and forth between wood and tent, while you tried to catch your breath, when suddenly a loud voice shouted at you from behind.
„Hey! Who told you to stop. The others are already coming back. Do you think you can cop out, or what?" Still breathing heavily you turned back to him, seeing him rushing towards you, the look on his face a mix out of anger and amusement. This guy simply liked to torture people, you were sure.
You could feel the tears stinging in your eyes, as he approached you, looking as if the thing he'd like to do most, was hitting you with every single branch you had just put onto the ground. „I told you to just move them there", he started, and you had to do your best to hold back the tears. „The wood has to dry properly before-"
„What is going on here?"
At the exact same time you both moved, staring in the direction the voice had come from. Bellamy was walking towards you, an eyebrow raised, obviously waiting for an explanation.
„Bellamy", the brown-haired boy said, obviously happy that he'd be here to help. You instead could feel the heat rising in your cheeks as you averted your gaze, looking at the ground.
„What's the problem?", he asked, and you could feel his glance on you, just increasing the burning feeling in your cheeks.
„I told her to get the wood into the tent. It has to dry quick if we want to burn it. But she refuses to help."
„That's not true", you burst out, lifting your head again, but immediately you regretted to have spoken. For now you realised that your little quarrel had attracted bystanders, and everyone was staring directly at you. The silence seemed to drag on for an eternity, until Bellamy released you from the stares.
„You wanted her to carry all this wood from there", he pointed over to the pile of wood, „to there?" This time he pointed at the tent.
The boy, you realised to your great satisfaction, suddenly didn't seem so secure anymore, noticing Bellamy's tone.
„Yes", he admitted after hesitating slightly, realising that he may had done something wrong. „She was just standing around. I just wanted her-"
„To carry a pile of wood, nearly as big as herself from one side of the Camp to the other. Just to order someone around and have a little fun. Without thinking, that she may just paused, because it had been to heavy for her. And now you're scolding her, for doing work, that was more than difficult for her, and taking a small break."
Your mouth stood slightly agape as you listened how Bellamy completed the sentence. And also the boy looked more than stunned. His mouth closed and opened repeatedly, making him look like a fish out of water.
„Did you refuse to work?", Bellamy asked, now turning towards you. Immediately you shook your head, not able to do anything else. Bellamy Blake had just protected you! And here you were, thinking, that he wouldn't even know who you were.
„Did you stop, because this moron gave you more than you could carry", he asked again, and now your cheeks were burning red. Again you nodded, feeling more than embarassed. For the first of all, you had to admit that you were too weak to carry all this, and second, everyone was now staring at you and Bellamy. Bellamy nodded too, gesturing you he'd understand and stepped closer to the guy.
„If I catch you ordering people around like this again, you'll be out here faster than you can say 'Grounder'. Did you understand me?"
The guy merely managed to nod, but this seemed to be enough for Bellamy. „Good. And (y/n)?"
Immediately your body tensed again. „Come with me, I give you something else to do." Quickly you nodded, following after Bellamy into the dropship.
While walking behind him you recalled what just had happened. Bellamy had protected you, and he knew your name. If anyone had told you this a day earlier, you would have never believed anything of this.
Truth was, you had had a crush on him for a while now. The way he looked, the way he spoke. And how he handled the leading together with Clarke was admirable. You could have never done that.
And the more he actually cared for every single one of you, the more you cared about him.
You could never tell him that of course. That he knew who you were was just pure luck. He probably knew a lot of people's names.
He was the leader, strong, determined and he would definitely not be interested in a girl that could barely open her mouth without turning scarlet red in the next second. A girl that couldn't even handle a few branches.
He belonged to someone like Clarke. Not like you.
And this thought followed you into the dropship and it didn't vanish as Bellamy started to explain your new task to you.

„This is nearly everything we could get out of the remaining bunkers we found. Except for the weapons. I want you to sort all of this, and make a list. Somewhere here should be pen and paper. Alright?"
You nodded. The task was so easy, even you would be able to do it.
That was probably why Bellamy has given it to you, you thought for yourself, sighing silently. But Bellamy noticed it nevertheless.
„Anything wrong", he asked, eyeing you suspiciously. Quickly you shook your head.
„No, no! Everything is fine!" You could feel the heat burning in your cheeks again. „Thank you for giving me something, that even I can do."
Instantly you bit your tongue. You had wanted to thank him, honestly, but what had come out instead sounded more like a complaint, than you had intended to. „I mean-", you started, trying to save yourself, but Bellamy interrupted you.
„Even you can do?", he asked, his eyebrow raised. You opened your mouth to somehow explain yourself, but Bellamy was faster. „I would let no one else do this job." Now you closed your mouth again.
„What?", you asked, cursing yourself in the same second for sounding so stupid.
„This", he said, pointing to the stuff that was partially packed in bags, partially lay all over the floor, „Is everything we have found in the bunkers. This can help us survive. I want you to sort this, because I trust you. More than anyone else in this Camp. Did you understand me?"
You looked at him with big eyes, and couldn't help yourself before you burst out the question that should give your day a quick change.
„Why?"
Bellamy lowered his gaze and stared at the floor for a moment, before he turned it back to you.
„Because you helped wherever you could. You never tried to get on any kind of weapon, and I just don't think, that you would take anything for yourself, if you wouldn't need it, if it may help someone else."
He licked his lips, as he simply stood in front of you, looking at you. You tried to understand what he just had said.
„So you have noticed me."
Instantly you could feel your face becoming a deep red. That was by far the most embarassing thing you had ever said in your whole life. If Bellamy hadn't stood in front the door, you would have most likely tried to run away.
Slowly, scared what you might see, you lifted your gaze until it met Bellamy's face, who – to your great surprise – didn't look freaked out at all. He almost seemed surprised.
„I have", he said, stepping closer to you. „From the first day."
He couldn't be serious. He was making fun of you, definitely. There was no way Bellamy Blake could actually like you in any way possible. He sighed. „Would you look at me, (y/n)?"
Slowly you lifted your gaze, until you met his dark brown eyes. Immediately you were caught in his intense stare.
„Stop thinking so low of yourself. You are much better than that."
„How do you know", you asked back, not able to avert your gaze.
How did he know? You had barely spoken to anyone, let alone proved you somehow useful in all the time. You could feel your throat aching slightly, as the tears threatened to fall.
Just in the right moment you looked away, when the first tear rolled over your face. But Bellamy had noticed it.
He slowly stepped closer to you, standing in front of you for a few seconds, before he suddenly pulled you into a tight hug. Gently he stroke over your back, trying to calm you, but you had already stopped crying. You had just opened your eyes wide, your face buried in Bellamy's chest, as he held you. Slowly you returned the hug, as you simply stood there, enjoying the feeling of Bellamy's arms around you.
Much too soon he pushed you away a bit, so he could look at you. You hesitated slightly, but then you too lifted your gaze so you could look at him.
„I just know", he answered as he placed his hand on your cheek, gently wiping away the rest of the tears, before slowly bending down to press a soft kiss on your lips. You closed your eyes, returning it, blending everything out except for Bellamy's lips against yours, and your skin, that was burning slightly where he touched you.
„I did more than just notice you", Bellamy whispered, placing his forehead against yours.
Slowly you opened your eyes and looked straight into his.
„I like you, too", you whispered, and as Bellamy placed his lips on yours again, you could feel no embarrassment at all.
You were just plain happy.
