The mood in the whole camp was tense. All of you knew, that the Grounders could attack anytime, and it was beyond all question, that most of you didn't have the greatest chances to survive any kind of direct encounter with them.
So, the least you could do was to set up defenses, never leave camp without a gun and hope that they'd rather observe than kill.
...Okay, who did you try to fool.
Eventually you'd most likely all die, but you also couldn't just sit here and wait for them to finally kill you. No, the evolutionary process had won, and all of you knew, that you had to do something that would keep the Grounders away from you.
Such as traps, ditches, land mines. You needed every defence you could think of. Everybody had a task to do, and no one was sitting around the fire doing nothing. Almost all of you were on their feet trying their best to make the camp safer.
You were just working on the wall, mending a part of it, when you saw two of your people coming out of the woods, heading in your direction. Fox and Miles you assumed their names to be.
„Where's Bellamy", Fox asked, before she even thought about greeting you.
You put away the small part of metal you were just going to attach to stabilise your whole construction a little more. „Busy. What's wrong?"
Fox sighed and looked towards Miles. „There's a problem with the traps." You raised an eyebrow, and wiped your hands on your trousers, not saying anything, just waiting for one of them to speak on. „We simply don't manage to install the last two", Miles finally admitted, looking slightly embarrassed past you.
„Give me the map." You held out your hand, but no one moved.
„What?", Miles asked, looking a little confused.
You shrugged. „Give me the map, I'll fix it. I don't even know why you had to do this. Hydro station, wasn't it?" They nodded.
„Mecha station. My mother was in engineering. Just give me the map, I'll finish your traps and you can try to finish this wall. In emergency just nail the metal over the hole."
Miles nodded and looked at Fox who reluctantly handed you over the small piece of leather that showed the locations of the traps; little crosses drawn with coal, representing each one of them.
„Be right back", you said, shouldered your weapon and the tools you needed, and made your way into the woods.
„And... done."
Proudly you looked at your work. It was barely noticable that you had changed anything in this part of the woods, and that was exactly how it should look like. Invisible.
You shouldered your gun again, when all of a sudden something wet fell on the tip of your nose. You felt with your hand, and as you pulled it away from your face again, you looked at the clear liquid on your fingers. Water.
More drops began to fall one after another to the Ground, faster and faster. Only now you realised that the wind had become a lot stronger as well, causing you to wrap your jacket a little tighter around yourself. The rain had soon stopped falling in single drops and was now so strong that it looked like every drop of rain was nothing but a long line of water falling straight from the sky. You could barely see anything, and orientating in the forest had never been one of your strengths. Impossible that you could do that while it rained like this. You were already wet to the skin, and the wind shook the branches of the tree dangerously.
You couldn't stay here, you decided.
You needed shelter. The earlier the better.
At the same time, Bellamy went through camp one last time to make sure that everyone had gather in the dropship by now. The wind was heavy and whipped the rain painfully into his face, pulling on his hair and clothing. He hadn't been outside for more than a minute and yet he was already completely soaked.
He decided that no one had remained outside – everyone who would, would've been nothing but stupid – and finally jogged back into the dry spaceship.
Bellamy shook his head, and ran his hands through his dripping hair, as soon as he stepped inside.
„Clarke, close the door. Everybody's in", he shouted, accepting a somewhat dry jacket from Octavia. He had shrugged it on, and was immediately thankful for the warmth it gave him. Behind him the door closed with a solid sound.
Bellamy hated the storm. The storm meant, they had to light the fire again, they had to dry their food, they were delayed in their preparations against the Grounders.
He sighed and just wanted to go through the mass of people to search for his friends, when suddenly a brunette girl appeared in front of him. He tried to remember her name, but he quickly gave up. A hundred names were a few too many.
„What is it?"
„Uhm, Bellamy... I think..."
„What?" He didn't mean to sound so rude. He was simply cold, the storm annoyed him, and he just wanted to relax a little before he had to get to work again.
„I think (y/n) may be still out there."
Immediately Bellamy tensed. „What?", he asked again, but this time sounding rather worried than rude.
„She told Miles and me that she'd fix the traps for us and... we haven't seen her since. I went through the whole dropship, and Miles too, but we couldn't find her."
Bellamy just stared at her. „And you tell that only now?!" He shook his head, and turned towards the closed door, before he hastily turned again, making his way through the people and towards the mechanism that would open it.
Clarke stood next to him, watching him confused. „What are you doing?"
Bellamy didn't look up and just pulled the lever that opened the door so he could get out. „(Y/n)'s still out there", he said, watching the door sliding open. But he was interrupted as he felt Clarke's hand on his, pushing the lever in the different direction. „That's way too dangerous, Bellamy. It's pouring with rain, it's dark... (Y/n) is strong, she'll make it."
Bellamy just stared at her, his expression completely serious. „I am not going to leave her out there", he said and pushed the lever in the other direction again, before he made a sprint towards the door, pushing two or three people to the side. He just managed to slip through the door, before it closed again, with the same solid sound. The rain greeted him as cold and icy as before, and he closed the jacket he was wearing, before he sprinted into the woods.
You hadn't managed to find something that really counted as shelter. Instead you just cowered underneath a small fallen log, that afforded little protection from the rain, but at least the wind wasn't as strong underneath here. Moreover your head was save, in case a branch would fall from one of the trees. You were trembling uncontrollably by now, and there was nothing on you that wasn't completely soaked. Your tools lay next to you, directly beside your gun, just in case, although you thought that even the Grounders wouldn't be stupid enough to go out in such a storm.
Exhausted you pulled your knees tighter against your body, hoping that this would keep you warm for a little longer, but it didn't help much. „This is what you get for helping other people", you whispered to yourself, gazing into the pouring rain, when you suddenly heard something.
„I'm going crazy now", you whispered, but then you heard it again. A voice.
You crouched forward a little, but you could barely see anything through the heavy rain. And then you heard it again. „(Y/n)!"
Someone was calling your name.
Your eyes opening wide, you scrambled out from underneath the log and called back. „I'm here!", you shouted, and slipped on the wet earth, falling to your knees again. Only now you realised how stiff you had gotten underneath there. You could hardly move your fingers. „I'm here!"
„(Y/n)!", you heard the voice again, and saw a shadow running towards you. You tried to get up again, when two strong hands grabbed you and helped to pull you back on your feet. Being weirdly aware of the way you looked – dirty, wet and still shivering – you looked up into the face of the man who had found you. „Bellamy", you whispered, and for a few seconds you just stood there, looking up at him, hoping that he'd get you back to camp. And then he did something you hadn't expected. Bellamy pulled you into a tight hug, and only for this moment you stopped trembling. He pulled away from you again, shouting through the rain. „We have to go back to camp!"
You nodded, and let him pull you with him, through the woods, the rain swallowing the sound of your footsteps.
The only thing existing in this wood right now were you two and the never-ending rain around you.
It didn't take long until you arrived back at camp, and you had never thought to be so happy to see the dropship. Now that you stood, Bellamy pulled you against him, wrapping his right arm around you to warm you, as he hit several times against the door. „It's me!", he shouted, but you doubted that anyone would be able to hear him over the storm.
He banged again, even harder than before, and shot you a worried glance. But finally the door clicked, and began to open.
Relieved you sighed and almost expected Bellamy to let you go now, but he still held you tightly against him, even while he led you inside the dropship, the door closing again, as soon as you'd stepped inside. „They need clothes", Clarke's voice popped up, as she made her way through the staring crowd towards Bellamy and you. „Now!"
A few people started to get moving, while you still stood there, shivering and pressed against Bellamy's side, Clarke just shaking his head at him, all the while a small smile was playing around the corners of her lips.
As you saw two girls approaching with blankets and new clothes you looked up at Bellamy and smiled weakly.
„Thank you."
And as he returned your smile, you felt your heart miss a beat, and yourself unable to look away from him.
Oh, no.
