It was a normal day at the camp and you were just taking a break from your daily duties. You were exhausted but you had looked forward to these few minutes of freedom all day, for Bellamy, your boyfriend of quite some time now, had promised to spent them with you. Sure, you saw him every day, every now and then, while both of you worked for the camp and you usually spent the evenings with him, but often both of you were just so tired that you would simply cuddle and then fall asleep soon. And even if you liked this, you missed spending some time with him ...talking.
Leaving your finished work behind, you began searching for Bellamy and finally found him near the gate to the forest, standing there together with Clarke, Raven and Jasper.
At first you had wanted to join them, but something made you hesitate, causing you to just watch them.
Well, mostly Bellamy. He looked so happy and free like you had rarely seen him during your whole time on the Ground. The stinging feeling of guilt spread throughout your body while you looked at him talking.
And you knew where this feeling came from. It was because you weren't like those three. You weren't brave like them, you weren't as outgoing as them and that made you feel miserable. Clearly Bellamy had way more fun with them, who were everything that you weren't and probably never would be.
A lump built in your throat and you suddenly felt like being alone. So you turned around storming off to another direction, just so you could get away from the four. You stiffled a sob and tried to hold back the upcoming tears, while you walked around aimlessly, searching for a place where no one would disturb you. Even though your throat burned and your nose prickled you somehow managed to sit down on the ground, leaning against a tree at the other side of the camp, all without crying. You leaned your head against the tree, looking into the sky before closing your eyes, calming yourself down and trying to ignore the noise of the camp around you.
You didn't know how much time had passed, for you must have dozed off, as all of a sudden a familiar voice awoke you with a start.
"What are you doing here?"
Instantly you opened your eyes and turned your head to see Bellamy sitting down next to you, his gaze worried and trained on you. You just shrugged and turned your head away, embarrassed of the whole situation. Right now you didn't want to talk to him, you just wanted to sit there under the tree by yourself and not having anyone around.
"You can talk to me, you know that", Bellamy tried again, reaching out to your hand and squeezing it slightly. You nodded and just closed your eyes once more, nearly starting to cry again, when Bellamy began to draw small circles on the back of your hand with his thumb.
But suddenly he stopped, in the first second making you think he would go, already missing his touch. Yet, instead of a leaving he shifted in front of you.
"Come on, what is it?", he asked again.
You opened your eyes, looking at Bellamy who was watching your every move attentively.
"It's just...", you started with a breathy voice and then hesitated for a moment.
"Nothing", you finally said, inhaling deeply, "forget it, it's not important."
You saw Bellamy frowning. He lifted his hand, stroking a strand of hair out of your face, before cupping your cheek carefully.
"(Y/n), what's wrong?"
You looked at him, thinking about whether you should tell him or not but you decided that he at least deserved to know what was going on. Sighing you closed your eyes one more time to collect your thoughts.
"You know, I saw you there with Clarke and Raven and Jasper and...", you said and sighed. You felt incredible tired right now.
"And?", Bellamy asked, frowning again and not understanding the point of what you were saying.
"And you looked so...so happy."
You knew by the way he looked at you that he didn't understand what you were trying to tell him, so you just chuckled humorless, took his hand from your cheek and squeezed it slightly with both of yours.
"I rarely see you this happy when I'm with you. I know... that I'm not like Clarke or Raven. I want to be brave, I want to be outgoing but..."
Your voice cracked a little as you tried to withhold the tears that began to form in your eyes again.
"But I can't. Because I'm a coward and... I just can't."
Now you couldn't hold the tears back anymore; you felt them running down your cheek and you let go of Bellamy's hand to wipe them away.
"Hey, hey", Bellamy said, his voice calm and soothing, "look at me."
But instead of following his plea you looked away, embarrassed of crying in front of him, until he carefully placed his hands on both of your cheeks, making sure you had to face him.
"That's not true, and you know that", he said but you accidentally cut him off with a sob that escaped your lips.
"That's not true", he reassured you again, "(Y/n), I've seen you fight. You are brave. And even if you're not as outgoing as Clarke or Raven or I don't know who-"
Again you cut him off, sobbing and then pressing your lips together, trying to hold it back.
"That doesn't mean anything, because I love you. And I love you for it. You don't need to change, not even a little bit."
You smiled slightly at him, somehow comforted by his kind words. Slowly you stood up again and once Bellamy was standing in front of you, you pecked his lips but before you could move back again, he stopped you, pressing his lips against yours once more.
After he broke the kiss, you moved back just a few inches, smiling at him.
"I kind of like spending my break with you", you muttered grinning.
"We should definitely do this more often", he mumbled, before kissing you again.
A few days went by and before you had realised it, it was your birthday. You hadn't though that anybody would remember it but apparently Bellamy had told quite a few people about it, which resulted in you finding yourself in between of hugs and congratulations.
The whole day you had been truly happy and after Bellamy had promised you a surprise this evening you could barely hide your excitement. As soon as you had known about this you had happened to turn a bit inattentive and probably had annoyed at least half of the camp but today, as an exception, you just didn't care.
So in the evening, when all the work was done you were waiting for Bellamy outside of the medical centre, where you had just helped cleaning. You were nervous, even if you didn't exactly had a good reason for it. As Bellamy turned around the corner you had been staring at for approximately at least five minutes, your heart skipped a beat. Quickly you stood up, smiling at him who just took you by your wrist and guided you through the camp.
"We have to be quick", he just said and you were hurrying behind him, trying to catch up with him.
When he stopped and you looked around, you noticed that you were at the place you and Bellamy had sat together the other day you had seen him talking with Clarke, Raven and Jasper. Immediately you felt that lump build in your throat again.
"Bell...", you started, but he turned to you smiling. He took you by your wrist again, this time much more careful and led you just a few steps further to a dirty looking blanket. Around the blanket he had placed some fruits something that looked an awful lot like Monty's Moonshine. You smiled at him brightly.
"This is amazing", you laughed, but Bellamy shook his head.
"It gets better", he said, leading you onto the blanket.
"Lay down", he told you and you eyed him skeptically but laid down nonetheless, when he gestured you to hurry up. Then he followed you, wiggling himself next to you, until you could feel the heat of his body against your skin.
"Bell", you started after both of you had stared at the stars for some time, "the stars are beautiful but-"
"Ssh", he made softly, "It's going to start every moment."
You looked at him frowning but before you could say anything else to him, he took your hand in his and then pointed towards the stars.
"Hey, look", he whispered near your ear and you immediately turned you head again. What you saw let you hold your breath for a few seconds before you exhaled again deeply. Meteors flew past you and you could do nothing but to stare at them, your mouth standing open. There were so many Meteors you couldn't count all of them, flying one after another, some simultaneously and it was just amazing to watch.
"How did you know?", you asked breath-taken without looking away from the sky.
"Kyle told me", he just mumbled and then fell silent again.
After it was over, you frowned a little, because you surely could have watched this the whole night, before you looked back at Bellamy, a smile growing on your face again.
"Thank you", you whispered, your faces just a few inches away, "this was... incredible."
He smiled back at you and planted a soft kiss on your forehead.
"But seriously", Bellamy started after a few moments looking at you, "I don't care that you're shy or not as outgoing as others. It's just something else about you I love."
You didn't look at him; you just wiggled closer to him, whereupon he wrapped his arm around you.
"And I'll never leave you. Don't ever think that.", he added and this time you looked up at him.
"Promise?", you asked silently and he nodded slightly.
"Promise."
You looked at him a few seconds more before you sat up a little, supporting your weight with your left arm just like he did before. Then you held out your right pinky.
"Pinky promise?", you asked and he chuckled slightly, before crossing your finger with his.
"Pinky promise", he reassured you and now both of you smiled laying down again, your head on his chest and his arm securely wrapped around your shoulder.
"I love you", he whispered and you smiled against his chest.
"I know", you answered grinning and he chuckled again.
"I love you too", you whispered after a few seconds and he cradled you nearer before placing a kiss on top of your head.
You just closed your eyes and sighed happily.
This had been the perfect birthday.
