Clary P.O.V

I never thought I would ever stare at those endless black eyes. The same cold eyes that destroyed my mother and for that he will pay. He broke my mother. He tore her to pieces. He got her heart and smashed it with his stupid actions.

Valentine, my so-called father stood a few feet away from me and beside him stood his son, Sebastian.

Figures that Sebastian is the son of Valentine Morgenstern. They both have the same cold eyes and that need to be loved. But they don't understand love they will treat you like you are their own personal puppet.

"What are you doing here, Valentine." I hissed straight through my clenched teeth. I know he can see the anger raiding of me. He knows how much I hate him.

"Ah Clarissa. Long time no see. Huh." Valentine said in a cool tone. Its almost like he doesn't see my anger. "And that is not how I taught my daughter to behave in front of guests."

"I was never your daughter!" I retorted at him. "And you will never be my father!"

I took a step closer to him.

I then heard an intake of breathe.

I turned around to see Jace staring wide eye at me then at Valentine and kept repeating it until he understood. He took another intake of breathe and stumbled back a little, clearly baffled by his discovery.

I know why he is acting this way. No one knew my father and no one was supposed to know. I even changed my last name.

Clarissa Adele Morgenstern died when she was nine years olds along with Jonathan Christopher Morgenstern. And then Clary Fairchild and Jon Fairchild were born.

I know it sounds a bit over dramatic, but you don't know how much I hate Valentine. Ever since he was out of the picture my mom stepped into depression.

She stopped caring and loving us. By 'us' I mean me and Jon. Until the day she tried to commit sucide, but she failed to cross over to the other side. Jon was about thirteen and I was tweleve.

School was out and Jon and I were about to step into our home until we heard a loud thump. Jon and I looked at eachother and sprinted into our home. I checked the living room and Jon checked some other place.

I then heard Jon called for me. I followed Jon's voice and dropped to my knees when saw my mom surrounded by a pool of her own blood. Jon quickly dialed 911 on the house phone while I started to crawl my way to her.

Tears were forming in my green eyes as I reached for my mother's artist hands. I looked down at my mother's hand that was grasped tightly around mine. I also noticed long gashes across her wrists. That was where all the blood was coming from.

I quickly ripped my flannel shirt from the sides and wrapped it around my mother's wrists.

I still remember Luke carrying her to the ambulance. After that she was in comma for a few months, they were about to send me and Jon to a foster home, but Luke, recently a police officer, stepped in and took care of us.

All of this happened to my mother because of the man standing right in front of my face.

"What are you doing here Valentine." I spit the last word at him.

"Well isn't obvious I'm shooting a movie." He said as he trailed his eyes down and up at me.

I made a disgusted look on my face.

His eyes stopped at my wrists, which had a white scar on each one of them.

"I see that you were trying to follow in your mother's foot steps." He said emphasizing the word 'trying'.

I quickly put both of my wrists behind me.

I guess he knows what happened in sophomore year.

"What do you mean 'trying' Valentine. You left her and us. You left Jon and I." I said with anger and a ting of sadness in my voice.

He then smirked at me. Clearly he was happy on hearing me, struggling to control my voice.

"And it was the best thing that ever happened." I added.

His smirk was quickly wiped away and replaced with a tight smile.

"And it was a pleasure to see all of my family struggle." He said in a serious tone.

"You lost the right to call us 'family' years ago." I said in a tired voice.

"You mean you and Jocelyn, right?" He said in an entertaining voice. "Jon was the only Morgenstern in your pathetic family."

I then felt someone grab my elbow and pushed me back, gently. I knew it was Jace, but not once my eyes left Valentine's.

"Don't talk to Clary like that." Jace said in a deadly tone. His golden eyes meeting the black orbs of Valentine.

Valentine's gaze lingered on me before he meet Jace's golden eyes.

"Ah if it isn't Jonathan Herondale." I tense up a little bit by hearing my brothers first name come out of Valentine. Jace also tightens his grip on me, clearly shaken by the fact he heard his first name.

"How do you know my real name." Jace said as he pushed me behind him. I was about to protest, but he gave me a look that wasn't even new to me. In fact I never thought I would see that expression on his face ever again.

I took a step farther away from him.

Something flashed behind his eyes but he was back to normal in no time. He then focused back on Valentine.

"Answer my question." Jace said to Valentine in a serious tone.

"You know Stephen wasn't really a good man. He was to caring. Too weak for my liking." He said and a sigh was followed after that. "He cared to much about his family."

Stephen? Who is Stephen?

While I was the only one with a confused expression, everybody seemed to know who this Stephen guys is, even Jace, judging by the fact that he just stood there, frozen.

"He would've done anything for his family, you know?" He said. "Even if that meant betraying me."

"And that is why he had to be eliminated."
