I sit up on my bed looking out through the window at the greenery before me. Mountains. I get up and start to walk towards the door when I hear a knock on the door.
"Come in." I call, and the door opens to reveal Savannah.
"Hi, just checking on you, or rather, I wanted a few answers. I'm rather confused. Where are we?"
"We're in the Nightingale's house. They're old friends of our parents." My voice slowly dies out as I think about how my mother used to say so much about Mrs. Nightingale, whom she called Hadley.
Savannah avoids my eyes to the point where it kind of irritates me.
"What?" I ask finally ask her.
"What do you mean 'what'?" She replies, still looking behind rather than straight at me.
"Why do you keep looking away, do I have something on my face?"
"No... It's just... Could you put a shirt on?" She replies still looking away in a rather embarrassed way.
Seriously?
"Why? You like what you see?" I tease her cheekily.
"Ash, could you please just put a shirt?" She urges. I know she's serious because she used my name but it's too cute seeing her worked up so I feel like pushing her more.
"Why would I? I'm fine like this."
I get closer to her, my eyes gazing intently into hers and I can tell she's desperately trying to look away. It's amusing seeing her react like this, seeing her cheeks get pink, seeing her get flustered and getting at loss for words.
"Does it make you uncomfortable?" I ask her, feeling a small grin ready to make its way onto my face.
Yet she stands strong, not moving even an inch. Simply letting herself get all red yet not wanting to back down. By now any other girl I met would have kissed me, giving in to temptation but Savannah doesn't. In fact I doubt it even crosses her mind and that's what makes it even more interesting than any other girl. The other girls I've met were way too easy. They didn't put up a fight. They were boring. Savannah on the other hand is a challenge, a challenge I have to and will beat.
"Yes, it does, now can you back off?" She finally musters up the courage to say, a frown plastered on her face.
"What about no?"
Now it's her turn to grin and now I'm confused.
Why is she grinning?
"Fine." She replies before pulling my shoulders down and placing a quick kiss on my cheek before rushing out.
Silence.
There I am left stunned, surprised, shocked. I am one to foresee how a person will act before they even realize that's how they are going to react, but what the heck was that? That was totally unexpected, not anticipated whatsoever. My heartbeat gets faster in total shock that I am still speechless about the whole matter. So quick and like that she's gone. And I thought I was ahead of the game.
How could she leave me so speechless?
Then I smile to myself in mischief. I like that about her, she's unpredictable, an enigma, a jigsaw puzzle. It just makes me want to decode her all the more and very quickly. I'll get back at her eventually.
Just you wait, Savannah.
