When Peter Cullen auditioned to be (G1) Optimus Prime's voice, he was surprised by his employers when he found out he was not only Optimus voice but also Ironhide's.
Both characters were often, if not all the time, together or close to each other. You didn't have to pay close attention to see the similarities in both characters voice.
This was the beginning of a great legacy.
Some people just have great luck.
