"What do we do with it," Dargon asked. "Maybe we should go back and see if other dragons can help bring it back."
"No," Kori shouted, somewhat aghast. "This is our kill."
"And why shouldn't we share it with the flock?"
"Because you owe me for that stag, and I'll be able to challenge the alpha now."
Dargon didn't understand at first, but then it struck him. Customarily, you would present the alpha with a prize kill before challenging them. It had been done this way since he was a hatchling. A fight to the death, winner would be the alpha, and the connotations of this hit him hard.
"Kori, you can't! There's a reason he's still alpha!"
"Oh please, don't act like you care. What I do is up to me. If I want to fight the alpha, I'll fight the alpha."
"You're crazy Kori."
"Took you long enough to realize," said Kori, rolling here eyes.

They were both silent for a while as they observed the dead wurm.

"Alright, how do we get it back," asked Dargon.
"That's what I'm trying to figure out."
"I'd rather not get any blood on myself while moving it."
"Why, you don't like blood," she asked in a mocking tone, heading towards the still-flowing pool of blood.
"No, I just don't like transporting corpses."
Kori flicked him in the nose with a bloody claw. "You sure?"
Dargon gave her a look of amusement. "If you really want to get under my skin, assign me to carcass duty when you become alpha."
Kori chuckled. "I'll take a mental note on that."
"Why do you want to be alpha anyways?"
Kori let out a sigh. "You've probably noticed by now that everyone calls me a freak. I just want to show them all that even freaks can accomplish things."
Dargon kissed her cheek. "Stop calling yourself a freak. You're beautiful the way you are."
Her eyes filled with a slight wonder as she gazed back into his. He leaned in for another kiss but she grabbed his head and pushed him away.
"I thought I was the crazy one," Kori said, smiling. She leaned into his side. "You really are something Dargon... and to think I would've killed you when we first met."
Dargon chuckled, looking up towards the sky. The sun had set a while ago.
Kori poked him in the side. "I know you're just trying to be nice, but don't ever try flirting with me again." The wonder had left her eyes and she was once again the same sarcastic Kori.
