Chapter 9: The Beginning of a New Life

"Superboy, you live. That gives you the right to follow your own path. A weapon or a person, the choice is yours, but ask yourself, 'What would Superman do?'" I told Superboy my voice became so soft that even I had a hard time hearing it, but I knew Superboy did.

While I was doing this I fingered my knife and, after a few seconds I saw Superboy take the door off the hinges and threw the knife at the panel that connected all the panels, "I told you to get back to your-" Doctor Desmond said not realizing what I was doing.

"Don't give me orders," Superboy growled as he pushed the two men and Genomorph away and stared at Kid Flash for a second.

"You here to help us or fry us?" Kid Flash asked and I saw Superboy narrow his eyes like he was trying to do heat vision but nothing happened. "Huh. I don't seem to have heat vision, so I suppose helping is my only option," he said and I felt myself going back to a habit and drifted to the background, but mostly just pointed my Katana at the Doctor.

"Ahh. Finally! Lucky Batman isn't here. He'd have my head for taking so long," my brother said as he finally got out of his restraints. It was then that I moved toward them.

I focused on making sure that he wasn't in that much damage and when I felt like my search was complete I moved toward Kaldur where I quietly worked on getting his shackles off.

"Seriously, that's what you're worried about? The whole League will have our heads after tonight," Kid Flash said and I saw Robin already moving toward him to unlock him.

"Thank you," Kaldur said to me as I unlocked him. I just gave a stiff nod not really taking the complement in. Months of being told no one cared really drives one into not believing any sort of praise, even from a superhero.

"You- you'll never get out of here! I'll have you back in pods before morning. And you Apprentice! Deathstroke will hear about this!" The Doctor threatened and I winced but had the four teenagers follow me.

"That guy is not whelmed, not whelmed at all," my brother said and I felt curious as to what 'whelmed' meant but decided that I can ask him another day.

"What is it with you and this whelmed thing?" Kid Flash asked

We raced through the corridors, the others following me even Kid Flash wasn't speeding ahead of me, "We are still 42 levels below ground, but if we can make it to the elevator..." Kaldur said and I nodded, a plan was already forming in my mind.

We had to pause for a second in our escape when we got blocked by Genomorphs. It didn't take me long to just slip by the giant, not very fast-moving creatures, and went towards the door. Only had to pause for a moment when I realized the others weren't following and instead tried to get Superboy to stop beating up the Genomorphs.

He was also sort of burying us but after he knocked over the other two, I quickly let him open the doors before using the grapple that Deathstroke had given me to use.

I zoomed upward alongside my brother and watched as Superboy grabbed Kaldur and started to 'fly' before he was about to fall, he managed to grab onto one of the sides.

I paused and let Kaldur help Superboy, as I filed everything he said for later research about how people are supposed to act around one another.

I paused for a second feeling something above us moving and instantly grabbed Robin's attention who had Superboy throw open the door on sublevel 15.

We ran down the hall, I was right next to Superboy and if my diagram of the place was correct,I got bored in those two weeks, I for once spoke out loud, "Turn left!" I shouted and felt pleased when they did as I said and then told them to go right and was thankful for when they did that again.
