❸You're Late

I'm never going to forgive myself. Ever. I can't believe this. I agreed to skipping school with the boy I despised. Heck I can't even believe I skipped school. I must've been possessed by Cleopatra or something that made me agree to him.

The theme of the cafe was a very vibrant red and black rockers theme with chairs lined up in the middle and booths at the side. I was seated in one boots  waiting for Cody to come back with our order.

I felt a tap on my shoulder and I looked up to see Cody holding my Choc Frappe in one hand and his drink in the other.

"Thanks." I mutter taking my drink from him.

"You're welcome." He mutters back taking his seat.

The tension in the air was rising since we both didn't speak. I mean what was his point of making me skip and bringing me here if he doesn't want to talk to me.

I decided to speak first. "Why did you bring me here Cody?"

He choked on his drink a bit and then brushed his dark locks out of his eye. "I'm sorry." He sighed.

"I'm sorry? You're sorry?" I repeated, my blood boiling. He came here just to tell he's sorry.

"Bailey calm down. I know you want an explanation on why I left or why I came back." He said, fidgeting with his straw.

"You can't tell me to calm down. You left for a two years without a goodbye and never told us you were going. You blocked my number, heck you even blocked Justin's number. And you expect me to be calm when you suddenly rock up out of nowhere? Bullshit Cody." I finished taking a sip of my drink.

I could register the shock on his face because I've never spoken to Cody this way before. He was always my Cody. We'd joke around always and we'd never ever get into fights or anything like that. Things have changed I guess. We have changed.

"Look I'm sorry but can you just let me explain why I left." He eyes searching mine were pleading, he looked desperate.

"Fine." I scoffed. What is it with me and easily agreeing to this boy.

"The day before I left, I was at you house." He started, I nodded I do remember that day. "I was sick that day, when we were just watching movies and talking not doing much. I went home and found my mom crying in our living room. I asked her what was wrong and she told me...she told me that Rick, my dad, was in jail for dealing drugs. We didn't know he was dealing drugs and he owes a few druggies some money so we had to move. It was a last minute decision and I wasn't allowed to contact anybody since it wouldn't be safe for most people to know where we were."

He paused taking a deep breathe before he continued, "Mom and I moved to Wyoming and changed our names, started a life there. She met a guy there but turns out the guy knew who my dad was and dad owed him money. We ran into more people that dad owed money so we moved again. We kept moving until the police force promised to keep us safe, I kept getting sick during all this time and I was eventually diagnosed with diabetes. Now we're back here and I know things have changed but I want my best friends back."

I was shocked. Rick was dealing drugs, they had to move, Cody got sick. He..he has diabetes. I'm such a bitch. Cody is possibly dying and here I am shouting at him, waiting for an explanation.

"I'm sorry." I breathed casting my eyes away from him. I don't even deserve his friendship.

"It's fine." He chuckled taking a sip from his drink.

"No it's not fine Cody. I'm sitting here bitching about how you left when I didn't know the reason. And god...you have diabetes." I croaked feeling the tears well up in my eyes.

"Bailey stop. Everything is fine, I'm happy and healthy. And I'm not high right now or low so it's all good."

I left my eyebrows staring at him weirdly. "High or low?" I asked.

"Diabetic terms. Lets just say i'm even right now. I've got my pod with me."

"Pod?"

"Yeah," he nodded. "My insulin management, I need it with me everywhere I go. It's at my back."

I shook my head awed. "The thing that you have a needle? The thing that the needle goes into you?"

He nodded smiling.

"I've got so much to learn about you." I smiled back.

"You're late." Max chimed when I got home.

"Shut Up Max. I'm not late you're just the one that's early." I chuckled ruffling his ten year old hair.

"You are impossible." He rolled his eyes stalking off into the living room.

"Where's Mom and dad?" I called after him.

"Out on a date. Won't be back in like two days." He called back.

"This calls for a plan."

Hey guys. For those of you who forgot, Max is Baileys younger brother. And I'm so sad that Cody is diabetic. *Sniff* But I hope you guys enjoyed this short chapter. I'm working on making my chapters longer. The photo above is the cafe they went to.
