Adaieh's P.O.V.
I'm just now getting home. The smell of taco soup hitting me as I step in the door. Mmmm, I love taco soup. It's one of my favorites. My mom must wants something.
"Hey baby! Did you have fun with yout friends?" She beamed.
I nodded my head, watching her every move to see what she was up to.
"That's great! Well as you can see I made your favorite. Taco Soup!"
"Yeah, I can see that." I walked to the tables and sat down infront of a bowl with a side of chips which I guess was for me. She sat down across from me still with that smile on her face.
"Soooo, I have some news."
I knew it was too good to be true. I hope she didn't get a boyfriend! My mom is beautiful to be 33 and she can pull any guy at anytime if she wanted to but I don't think I'm ready for her to be with anybody just yet.
"Not anything that you're thinking of. Well unless you think of me going on a business trip." She said real fast.
I just starred at her. You have got to be kidding me. Going out with somebody would've been better than this. Mostly because she's gonna leave me with Ms. Martinez, the neighbor.
She's old, complains about everything and she's always calling me Shirley for some reason.
"You're kidding right?"
She smiled nervously.
I sighed and ate a scoop of soup. Well at least this takes some of the anger away.
"I'm sorry sweetie. But don't worry, Ms. Martinez will keep you company while I'm gone."
"Like that makes it any better."
"She's not that bad."
"Yeah okay, try spending time with her. Speaking of time, how long are you gonna be gone?" Another spoon of soup went into my mouth. She picked the right choice of food to tell me this.
"Only 3 days."
I frozed. I would have to spend 3 days with Ms. Martinez!
"You won't be back til Sunday?"
"I'm just trying to bring in extra money. Especially 'cause your birthday's coming up and I want to buy you something."
"You're making it sound like we're poor. Momma we're not poor. We don't need any extra money and I don't need a present. We're doing just fine the way we are!"
"Well we ain't rich either-"
"And we don't need to be!"
"Adaieh I'm trying to be civilized. I'm trying to do you something good but you ain't having it huh? This isn't for me, this is for us! I'm leaving for 3 days and you're staying with Ms. Martinez and that's final! You can at least say thank you." She got up and stormed off. Most likely to go pack.
I stared at her retreating back with a nasty look on her face. I didn't mean to make her mad. I was trying to tell her that we're a team. That we're suppose to include both of us in situations like this. That I don't want a present. All I want is her to be here for my birthday.
Maybe this isn't a bad thing. Now that I think about it, momma would never let me go to a party. Especially a high school party with no parent supervision. I could never lie pass my momma about going to a party. But, while she's gone it'll be easier. I won't be lying to her, just to Ms. Martinez. That will most definitely be easy. Plus it's only one night then the next day is Saturday. She'll be back on Sunday so if me and Sarah is ever sick or something it'll past by the time she'll get back and she'll never know.
