Chapter 7- The English Project

Chloe's Pov

"Alright class, settle down! I have an important announcement." Ms. Coremez yells over the classes chatter.

At this, the whole class quiets down. I heard from Zoey that there was an important English assessment coming up, maybe this is what she wants to tell us about?

"You all have an English assessment coming up. It will be about a the book we have been analyzing---Romeo and Juliet. You will need to rewrite a story based on this book ,but with a twist. Your setting will be in the modern day. You may choose to handwrite it, or type it out with no less than 3000 words. This will be done in pairs." At Ms. Coremez's words, I look over at Zoey hopefully, but she sighs and shakes her head, motioning for me to continue paying attention. "I will be choosing the pairs according to how well I think you can complement each other and help one another improve your English."

I look nervously around the class. Hopefully I get paired with Zoey and not Kim...But the chances are low, as Zoey's English was "satisfactory" and therefore wouldn't get paired with me who was "outstanding".

"Ok, here are the pairs as follows...Diane and Katherine, Melody and Nick, Zoey and James, Matthew and Kim..." At this, I shoot Zoey a sympathetic smile, before zoning out until I hear Ms. Coremez say, "and last but not least, Chloe and Jake. The due date is in three weeks time, and I will need the draft handed in at the halfway mark. Now, get to work with your partners please."

I am still in shock. I got paired with Jake...as in the hot, arrogant, bad boy Jake. Who also indirectly snubbed me about a week ago.

"Chloe!." Someone hisses at me from behind.

I jump, startled, and swivel around. Zoey is motioning frantically to me, and only then do I realise that all the pairs had moved to sit next to each other to discuss the assignment. I then look over to where Jake is sitting, or more like slouching in his chair lazily as if waiting for me to be at his beck and call. Huffing quietly, I drag myself out of my chair and shuffle my way over to Jake.

"Ah...so you're Chloe." Jake says, looking at me with a hint of interest.

I slowly raise my eyebrows, "Who else would I be?"

"Hmm, you've made over your personality as well...interesting." He remarks, before going back to scrutinizing me.

"Look. I know you don't really want me as your partner, but we have to make this work. So just suck it up and put up with me for three weeks and then we can go back to ignoring each other, I just want to get a good mark on this, ok?" I burst out frustratedly, after we had sat in silence for around 10 minutes.

He sits there in silence before slowly nodding his head. "Alright, tomorrow after school, meet me at my car." and he flies out of the classroom just as the bell rang.

A glance at Zoey told me that she had heard our conversation. What had just happened?
