The noose hung in front of her, swinging slowly in the breeze on the branch. Suicide was the only option she had left. The pain would have killed her one way or another.

FOUR DAYS AGO.

Haylie was a love-struck fool for her, at-the-time, boyfriend, Leon. He was tall, muscular and so blocked off from the world. She would do anything to please him, she could feel some bond between them that she couldn't explain. Granted, she never tried. Why question something so good? But he always had problems with her, constantly giving her the cold shoulder. And, recently, he broke up with her through a text. She was heart broken. Many times she had called him but he refused to ever answer. 'He still loves you.' She told herself. Then she decided, if he doesn't call back in the next two days, she cuts herself. If he doesn't call within four days... She kills herself.

The things love would make you do, but was it love? Or something she just couldn't comprehend yet.

PRESENT DAY

She took a deep breath. This was it. Then her house phone rang. Who could that possibly be? She groaned and walked toward the green cordless. She pressed down hard on the 'accept call' button, agitated and enraged. "What?!" She screeched into the phone.

"Oh hey. Um, I live across the street and I just moved in." There was a low, husky, teenage voice on the other end. He had one of those to-die-for seductive voices. But Haylie groaned. She didn't have time for this, even if he did sound super hot.

"Oh yeah? So why are you callin'?" She snapped. There was silence.

"Well the answer depends, how old are you?" He asked. Why did it matter? She didn't have time for this.

"Sixteen. Why!?"

"Then, I can tell you the truth. My parents forced me to call all my neighbours. But, I'm Ace. Are you possibly a dirty blond with hazel eyes and a green shirt?" He asked. She became shocked out of her mind, was he a stalker? But then the thought hit her. He could see her through her open window that she was going to jump out of for her death. She gazed out the window, she could see him. Standing by an open window in the house right next to hers. Her heart practically stopped. Was it possible for her to feel so in love with a guy she just met and barely knew?

No, her hormones were going crazy from all her recent problems but that was when he smiled. And then... She basically melted at the mercy of his beauty.

"Huh?" She sputtered, almost forgetting entirely, what he had just said. "Oh, no! I'm wearing a red top with purple polka dots." She lied, just to mess with his head. Then she whipped around to walk away from the window.

"Oh yeah?" He asked. It was too much. His voice was so deep, so smooth, and she knew he wasn't even trying. She halted in her tracks and took a deep breath, with the sudden urge to continue their conversation. "Then is it your sister I'm now gazing at?" Haylie's mind became foggy with lust, she could barely squeak out a 'mhm' . "Then can you put her on the phone so I can see if her voice is as beautiful as she looks?" The line fell silent, Haylie slowly turned to face him. She could see him bite his lips ever so slightly and then he hung up the phone. She smiled and did the same.

"I'm Haylie!" She called out through the window. She didn't have to raise her voice by much though, because their locations were a very short distance apart. "When did you move in?"

He hopped up on his window sill and took a seat. "Sup Haylie? Moved in just about a month ago." He replied. A month? Impossible, she would have realized. "Your parents are over here." No, this was just weird. Either he was straight up lying or she was as blind as a bat. Probably seeing her confused expression, Ace pointed below him at the downstairs veranda. Sure enough, her parents sat around a plush white table with what she assumed was Ace's parents. They would have seen her attempt suicide, save her and then ship her off to a boarding school for ADD. Ace practically saved her life, both social and physical. Then she took in his physical features.

He had glossy white blond hair that was messily done but handsome and alluring and dark yet teasing black eyes. People say no one has black eyes but if they saw him, they'd change their minds. He had sweet but not too deep dimples and red cherries for lips. Leon, on the other hand, had black hair that he always kept slicked back and almost, scary grey eyes. Most people she came across with grey eyes looked exotic, whereas Leon seemed deadly. He was very well-built but you could look at him and know he was constantly working out to get himself that way. However, Ace appeared as though he was just persistent in active work that someone may do everyday. His muscles were so natural. Ace caught her attention a little better than Leon ever did.

"Then maybe you should come over my house." Haylie blurted out, faster than she could think or process it, much less stop it from ever slipping her lips. But it was too late, the smile was creeping up on his tempting lips. He bit them again and made his way off the window.

"Is that an offer or an order?" He questioned mysteriously.

"How about an offer you'd regret declining?" She flirted back, losing control of her thoughts even more so than her mouth. "Who am I kidding! It's an order. I better see you in my room- my house! I meant my house!" And she did. Haylie had no idea where the 'room' part came from, although, her guess on that answer was that it came from her sub-conscious. Ace didn't seem to mind the slip of words though as he shook his head in laughter and turned to make his way out.

Was it wrong that her heart was beating harder than usual?
