Haylie P.O.V.
I knew exactly where to go. It was so easy now; the one place my parents had always forbidden me to go.
The hidden basement.
We turned the corner, sloshing through the wet-with-dew grass. Ace seemed so sweet. I felt connected with him somehow. It wasn't the same connection I felt with Leon. It was just as indescribable but... We connected on a different level. Like I could cuddle into his arms and cry without worrying about the amount of snot I get on his shirt. And Leon was the type where I was drawn to him without any sort of need for resistance.
The small little door slowly materialized from its nesting place in the lower part of the white wall. I scrambled to it and fell to the the ground at its mercy.
We were so close.
I could hear Ace's voice far off in the distance; I couldn't focus on him right now. It felt right to do this, like I was going to discover a huge puzzle piece that has been missing from my life. I latched the locket onto the miniature door. It swung open a bit and I saw a streak of gold pour out. And then Ace's firm hand placed a grip on my shoulder and he yanked me up from the ground. "What!?" I screeched at him, irritated that he ruined my moment of glory. He cupped his hand over my mouth.
"Hush." He whispered. Then he pointed with his free hand at the road down ahead. "I hear your parents' voices." At first I wondered how he could hear them because all I could see was a glint of light in the far distance but then I remembered that werewolves have heightened hearing. And another question popped into my head as he removed his tender hands.
"Why don't I have super human powers?" I asked in a whisper.
He smiled at me and a soft 'shhh' escaped his lips. He kissed my cheek gently and ran off into the night. All I could see was a golden, shimmering light from the door. I picked up a broken branch from the ground and stuck it into the door, closing it lightly and scampering back to my house.
"You better find my locket, Haylie." Were the first words my mom said to me when she walked through my door.
I hopped off my bed and put the gold piece of jewelry in her now-open hand. "It was on my dresser." I responded. And on my neck. And by a few secret doors. She gave me a hard look and whipped around to stalk back to her room. My father then walked in. "Hola mi papi, como estas?" I greeted. It always made him happy when I spoke in Spanish.
"Muy bien mija! Como pasaste la noche?" He grinned at me.
"He escuchadoa la musica y llamo a Helena." I lied to him in his own language
He had asked 'How did you spend the night?' and I answered 'I was listening to music and called Helena'.
"That's my girl. Embrace your heritage! Night, mija!" He exclaimed, turning to follow in mama's footsteps, literally. I returned to my bed and heard the beepinng of my Jumper3 account. Ace.
AceB: Hey there, cutie.
I smiled at his remark. I loved his forward-friendly attitude.
HaylieHearts: Hi :)
AceB: New name?
HaylieHearts: Uhuh! U like?
AceB: It's cute. When can we see each other again.
HaylieHearts: Don't we have a date???
