Ace P.O.V.
All the signs were there.
Haylie was about to Transform for the first time. I had to be there, I had to get to her. She was going to be in pain and scared and dangerous. Forgetting that the police officers were still at her house, ignoring the stares I received from her 'parents' and set my sights on the forest. But approaching the pedestrian crossing, a stern voice echoed through my head.
Emergency. You're needed immediately, beta and third-in-command. On the scene as well, I need Erica, Jonah, Hazelle, Tyrone and Angela.
'Oh shit.' I cursed to myself.
Make your crew pick first, Beta. Third-in-command state your co-ordinates. There was a pause as I guessed the third answered him. Very good. Ace take for the East. Well screw me, Haylie went North.
Can I skip this one, Alpha? I begged.
This is a rogue alert, Beta! You will be expected to be headed to the East in the next 2 minutes! Now make your pick!
Rogue? Immediately my mind went to Haylie. It must be a false alarm! It was Haylie they were after. I thought about a good argument to settle but realized it would be unnecessary. My wolf would've sensed if hers made a Transformation. So I let out a sigh of relief and made my first pick. Erica. I decided.
Jonah. The third-in-command chose. The third-in-command. My enemy. The person who I always loathed. Who always loathed me. We may have all smiles and act like it was okay but that was our silent agreement. To keep our positions. In my first month joining the pack, him and I got into 21 fights. 9 as humans, 12 as wolves. He envied me because of my position. Because he entered the pack before me. But he was by far the worst for the job.
Tyrone. My voice panted through our line as I began jogging East. Tyrone was the brains of the pack and a bit of a butt kisser. He definitely sucked up to me and the Alpha. But a nice guy and very trustworthy. His wolf, not very smart. That was my strategy, get some muscles and get some brains.
Hazelle. Very strong she-wolf. A bit on in the years but it made her wise and nevertheless, she was a brilliant fighter and a good choice. Two strong wolves on the side of the third-in-command. So the only brains would be...
Alpha. I finalized. Yes, he was a choice. His plot was to split a large group amongst us arch enemies so we can corner in our rogue target. This was only used in these emergencies. I took another whiff of the air and checked in with my wolf; no indication that Haylie was Transformed yet. Which also worried me. Where was she?
Angela. His last pick was spoken in pure spite. He knew how it hurt to hear her taken to someone else's side. I shouldn't be hurt though. She means nothing to me. Immediately my wolf jumped into action and I went speeding through the greenery and forest around me. My sleek back coat brushing past the leaves and loving the feel of the outdoors. I couldn't wait to do this with Haylie. First was Erica to join my side, a sweet honey coat and then Tyrone with yellow fur and lastly was Alpha racing only a few feet ahead of me with a silver coat.
Alpha was the only one that knew where to go so we followed by him loyally. And that was when the scent hit me, vanilla, wafting through the air. She was probably quite some distance since they should have been coming from the East, headed West whereas we were coming from the West, headed to the East that way we met in the centre. Where the rogue would be. If the rogue was headed North. Where Haylie went. Either she was a wolf about to slam into trouble with my Alpha or she was a human about to stir up danger with a wolf. Trying to decide which fate was worth had me pumped with adrenaline and racing against my Alpha to reach there first.
