Chapter-4

Sarah's POV

"I am really disappointed to say this Sarah, but I am afraid that I have to fire you."

"What? Sir,I know I made a mistake but I don't really think you should fire me. I will ensure nothing of that sort takes place again." I was beyond petrified when Mr. Anderson said that. I never thought that he would actually fire me. I was his favourite.

"Sarah, you already know that I wouldn't fire you for something as silly as this. I know it wasn't your fault."

Wait. He knew?

"I don't understand." I say mirroring my thoughts.

"Sarah, You should know that I don't want to fire you. You are like a daughter to me. But you have to trust me when I say I am forced to take this decision." He said. Pain and worry was almost visible on his face.

"But Sir. How will I get a job? No one who was fired from Anderson Corporations has ever received employment elsewhere. I really don't want to leave. Please consider-"

"I can assure you that you will get a job. And you don't have to worry about everything. Trust me there is nothing I can do." He cut me off.

As I reached my apartment I just curled up in a ball and cried. All night. Until sleep swept over my teary eyes.

I woke up to the noise of my phone ringing. I ignored it seeing an unknown number on the screen. I didn't feel like talking to anyone right now. But then it ringed again. Then stopped. Then again. Ugh.. I picked up.

"Hello?" I said in a slightly annoyed tone.

"Hello. Is this Ms Sarah Blair?" a woman asked.

"Um. Yeah". I replied.

"I just wanted to say that you have been given the job as a personal assistant of Mr. William."

What. Personal assistant of that bastard. Never in a million years. I thought of shouting at her first but realized she had nothing to do with it.

" I am sorry. There must have been a misunderstanding. I didn't even apply for the job."

"I am sorry ma'am , but I have got orders from Mr William himself to inform you. He insisted you start working from tomorrow." She almost pleaded.

"Well, can you please inform him that I refuse to work for him." And with that, I hung up.

It's time to start afresh Sarah.

Almost a week is gone and I have tried looking for a job in almost every company in existence. They all gave weird reasons to not employ me. I guessed it was partly because I was working for Anderson Corporations and was fired. I didn't try at William Enterprises of course. Thankfully, I didn't receive a call after refusing to work for the devil himself. But I did get an email saying that I will be pleading him for a job soon. As if that would happen.

My phone rings as I am about to sleep. S**t, its mom. I didn't tell her I got fired. She would be so worried. My mom is a single mother and she lives with my younger brother Alex in London. My brother takes care of her as she has CAD. My brother will graduate high school this year.

"Hi mom!" I try to sound as happy as I can.

"Hey Sarah, I have great news!"

"Wow. I had some news too. But you go first" I say. Maybe if I tell her that I got fired now while she has a good news, she wont feel very bad about it.

" I am getting married!" she says sounding utterly gleeful.

"What?..I mean how?.. when..? with whom..?" I say, lost for words.

" Well I am dating John for a while now, and he so happens to propose me. Isnt that wonderful?"

"Wait, John..? My English teacher?"

" Yeah. I am sorry I didn't tell you before. I just thought you might not take the news well. So we have planned the wedding in 4 months. And since Josh is here to take care of me now, Alex has decided to join college in the states like he always wanted to. I know it will be hard, I mean the college fees and all, but we can easily manage it with your and Josh's salary."

My salary. Oh god, I cant tell her now. I don't have an option.

"That's alright mom. We will manage. You take care of yourself." I say to make her happy.

"Thanks Sar. I have to go now. I have an appointment with the doctor. I will call you later. Bye."

"Bye mom, take care."

I have no choice. I need to manage my house rent, mom's hospital bills and Alex' college fees. I cant believe it. I am doomed.
