Chapter 3: The Potentials

Alex’s eyes enlarged upon hearing the “yes” from Lawrence. Even the director could not believe what he heard. But you can see the seriousness on Lawrence’s eyes.

“DAD!” Suzy yelled annoyingly, “don’t you have ears? Give me my birth certificate,” Suzy added.

“You agreed to audition here. And now that you have passed, you are now an official student of Gaerim Arts School,” Lawrence stood up.

“Mr. Lawrence Maxwell, what is happening?” Alex was confused and can’t relate.

“I am his ill-mannered daughter,” Suzy replied sarcastically.

Lawrence gets Suzy’s birth certificate. Suzy immediately snatched it from him causing it to be torn apart.

“Yaaaaah! You tore it!” Suzy shouted.

“I have an extra copy but there’s only one condition – enroll in Gaerim,” Lawrence started to talk seriously.

“No way. I need to go to the University right now. I’m probably late because of you,” Suzy replied.

“Then I will not give it to you,” Lawrence responded.

On the side, Alex can’t confirm on what’s happening. She does not know if Lawrence really sees something on Suzy or he just wanted Suzy to be a star.

“Let’s just proceed with the auditions,” Alex said annoyingly, “Arguing is not the best at this time so we better continue it later,” she added.

Suzy knows she can’t force her father to put out the birth certificate so she silently rebels by sitting down on the floor and keeps on commenting about the performances as lousy and insensible.

Until one not-so-good-looking girl entered the room to audition. She has a frizzy hair and dressed in an old Cinderella gown.

Alexandria sighed deeply and immediately asked the girl to do what she will perform. And the director whispered that he knows that this project is a big joke.

The girl started to perform softly – “Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high, there’s a land that I heard once in a lullaby.”

Everyone was startled. The girl who had once an aura of a very ugly duckling suddenly turned to a swan when she sang but sadly, she is still an ugly swan.

When she hit the chorus, Alex felt goose bumps on her body. The warm voice of the girl chilled the director. Suzy, on the other hand, smirked and gave a clever smile. Lawrence on the other hand stared at Alex’s facial reactions.

As soon as the girl finished her performance, she bowed dramatically.

“No doubt, I’m giving you a yes,” the director said just like what he said on the other applicants.

“I’m sorry but even though on the past performances, you had the best, I cannot give you my yes,” Lawrence stared at the girl’s eyes with seriousness.

“You said yes to a girl with an embarrassing performance but you said no to the least insensible performance,” Suzy expressed her opinion like a sharp claw scratching Lawrence.

Lawrence stared at Alex again. Ms. Foster couldn’t think about what she was going to say. This girl’s voice is the one they are waiting for. However, it’s such a disappointment that it’s almost impossible to market her face. And if they try to risk at her, 2 years would not be enough. On the other hand, the girl is shaking nervously.

“I am sorry but I think your performance was really great. However, the current Gaerim cannot manage you.” As Alex uttered these words, the girl started to cry.

“I am giving you the decision. Can you trust Gaerim Arts School that you can be a big star within two years?” Alex asked. The girl nodded and Alex replied, “Then I am giving you my yes.”

The girl suddenly broke down and thanked them.

“I think you need to thank the director more because he gave his yes without doubts,” Lawrence replied.

Lawrence said to leave her application on the table and return in the school on Monday for their orientation.

After the girl left, Alex started to talk, “We were not able to get her name.”

She looked at the application form and saw the name, “Mira Cleo.”

After they got their Mira, it looks luck has been their side as they found another gem. Everyone was screaming outside. And the next person who is about to enter the room is the teen actor Lewis Celadon. He was wearing an earphone while entering the room immodestly.

Another brainless turtle – Suzy thought.

“Why would a celebrity audition here?” Alex asked.

“Isn’t it allowed?” Lewis coolly replied.

“I’m giving you a no already,” the director said.

“I am a little busy right now so can I perform right now?” Lewis asked while Suzy was irritated greatly.

Lewis Celadon, as expected, danced with angst and coolness. Hence, he got the two other yeses. Just like what they asked to Mira, they asked him to return in the school on Monday.

Soon, they got two more guys and one girl on the audition – Michael Williams who acted, Leon Firestone who danced and Rica Heusaff who sang. The auditions were about to end with the last competitor.

A guy entered the room silently. But the director was busy talking on his phone, “I’m sorry but I need to go now. I really had a lot of fun on seeing those crazy performances. I would be returning here tomorrow to see the full list of your students,” Director Max bid his goodbye and left the hall.

On the other hand, the guy introduced his self, “I am Blizzard Shire and I am going to sing.” The guy had a very innocent face and an Asian style hair, “Can I sing a non-English song?” Blizzard shyly asked.

“Sure. I would like to hear a non-English song,” Lawrence said.

Blizzard started to sing. He sang with coolness that calms your head. The three listeners in the room felt an ambiance of Christmas because of the coolness of Blizzard’s voice. Blizzard stopped singing and the two teachers were like asking for more but Suzy started throwing bad comments again.

“Your lyrics are wrong. You murdered the Korean classic, Winter Child. You chose to sing a non-English song so that when your lyrics went wrong, it would not be noticed,” Suzy rudely said.

The guy looked down and slowly walked outside.

“But they are giving you their yes. I am sure that brainless people like you will really end up here,” Suzy added.

Blizzard looked at the teachers but Lawrence said, “We will only give our decision if you will sing an English song.”

Blizzard is having a hard time to reply. A person entered the hall running – it was the petite girl Alex invited to audition, “Is the audition still open?” the girl asked first while catching her breath.

“Oh! You are the girl I saw!” Alex was happily being surprised, “She’s the girl I was talking to you about this morning,” Alex said to Lawrence.

“Technically, we do not accept competitors anymore. However, I will give you a chance if you do a duet with Blizzard,” Lawrence said.

Alex was again surprised because that challenge is too mean since the two of them will need to duet in an instant without talking to each other.

“To make things easier, sing the most popular duet of all time, Endless Love,” Lawrence challenged the two.
