I sat with a lusterless face, holding out on the press of a button. I took a deep breath, shook my head, and came to my senses.
I didn't need to delete the email, it could've just stayed there as a memory. But Kate recommended me to. Correction: forced me to.
"She's the best, I swear."
I innocently smile and suddenly, it didn't seem like a big deal anymore. "I freaking love it here," I told myself.
Less hesitant than before, I gasped before clicking delete.
I let out a sigh of relief.
..
Nearly a month had passed, but little had changed. Everything was still a lovely mess, and I was amused by all the little things happening. Skyler's first trip to the dentist, where she couldn't help but shiver from the nerve-racking atmosphere. Mom and dad's anniversary. And the egg shells I saved from the first time Andy made me breakfast.
Kate was fast asleep at her place while I was visiting, taking one of her so called "beauty sleeps."
It didn't make much of a difference, she still has a face only a mother could love.
Her phone's beeping didn't wake her up, so I pushed her off the couch. I don't feel guilty at all, for all I know, it could've been the president.
Clueless, she sat upright and picked up the phone.
"Uhh... Huh ? W-who is this ?" She eventually said.
It was her grandma, Jane. Tall, thin, and very old, judging by the silver of her hair. She had sparkling light blue eyes which I truly envied. Everyone loves her.
She came back to me after a few minutes and cheered, "We're going to grandpa's farm, yay!"
..
Android and the newly wedded couple- Alex and Nora - tagged along. Skyler was the only one from the orphanage who wanted to come with us (she asked really nicely).
The farm grew up out of the pale green hills as if it had always been part of the scenery. The house itself was a beautiful brick, the colours being the hues of the land herself, rustic brown striations on grey rock. Upon the rolling fields grew potatoes, turnips and all the root vegetables we love to roast in the autumn.
Katelyn wouldn't stop talking about the Farm games she used to play with her family members and the other kids around.
According to what she said, they used to jump from hay bale to hay bale. They'd hide in the barn and jump out just to see the other kids jump in surprise before the laughter in their eyes spread to their smiles. They would race to the kitchen table because the last one to afternoon tea was a "rotten egg." Farm games were spinning in the yard with arms out wide until the dizziness sent them to embrace mother earth. These simple things what bonded them, kept them strong as a family, lead them to have this doofus, well grounded but fun-loving adult she is today.
..
We all walked together through the rough pavement of the farm. Skyler held Andy's little finger and swung his arm side-to-side.
Alex turned his face towards us, walking backwards and asked me if I wanted 7up.
"Lilly likes apple juice more than 7UP!" Kate muttered before I could answer.
