Layla Cortdale

As I was walking down the hall, I heard a distant voice behind me,

"Layla!"

I turned around and saw Nina, one of my teammates, running down the hall, waving her arm frantically, up in the air. Her curly, scarlet hair was swishing back and forth and her big brown eyes were wide open

"Hey Nina, what's up?"

She stopped in front of me and started to gasp for air," Breathe Nina, breathe" I told her

"Lay, coach wants to see you in his office"

"You ran all the way here, just to tell me that?" I questioned her

"Yeah, he said it was important"

"Why didn't you just mind link me?" I asked her

"Oh...right, haha" she said, nervously laughing while scratching her head

I looked at her with an uncertain expression on my face. Nina is different, she's a really shy and quiet wolf, except when she's around the team and her mate. She's an amazing softball player on the field, her agility and precision made her a great shortstop for our team, it amazes me how fast and how accurate Nina catches the ball whether it's a pop up or a ground ball. Shes always serene, its like she has nothing to worry about.

I looked at her cautiously,"Are you alright Nina?"

"Yeah, it's just I lost something very important to me"

"Oh?What-" Just when I was about to ask her what she lost, a deep voice cut me off

"Nina!"

She peered over my shoulder, since I was 2 inches taller, and I saw her body get tense and her facial expression changed from sad to worried, I turned around around and saw Phil, Nina's mate, coming towards us with a worried expression on his face. I turned back around and saw Nina taking off and turning the corner, I was about to go after her, but a hand grabbed my wrist.

"Lay, do you know where Nina's headin' off to? He asked quickly

"Sorry Phil, she just came, told me coach wanted to see me and took off" I replied

His shoulders sagged, he looks so broken

"She's been avoiding me for the past couple if days, and I don't know what's wrong, I miss her"

I observed him carefully, his hazel eyes were red and had bags underneath them. His long, brown hair looked disheveled and matted, he looked so broken. I've never seen Phil like this before, I grabbed his shoulder and pulled him in for a hug

"It's gonna be alright" I whispered in his ear

My wolf wasn't approving of this, but I reminded her that Phil was like a younger brother to me, most of the time he's annoying, but he always has a smile on his face. Although, he's a year younger than us, he skipped a grade. I slightly pulled away from him

"Phil, it's gonna be alright, honestly, if I said I know how you felt, I'd be lying, but trust me when I say it's gonna be alright."

He nodded his head and I visibly saw him relax, but he still had that worried expression in his face

"Thanks Lay, that means a lot" he told me smiling

"No problem, now go find your girl" I told him giving him a warm smile

He gave me a smile back and started jogging to the way Nina went, I turned around and headed to my locker, but when I just opened my locker, my name was being called through the speakers. I growled and slammed my locker, I headed to the main office and walked right in.
