Mae's POV
"Well, you have a concussion and a broken wrist, you'll have to go through physical therapy for that."
"So, can I be discharged today?" I looked at the doctor curiously. He's been talking about it a little bit this week."Yes," the doctor said, smiling. "Just be careful and stay home for a couple days, I'll email your teachers to get your work for you. I'll just fax or call it over."
"Thank you," I said, grinning from ear to ear.* * * *
Mom drove me straight back home, trying to keep me comfortable.
"I'm making your favorite, spaghetti!" Mom ran to the front door, opening it wide for me.
Walking in, I saw a table full of presents.
"What's this," I said curiously, turning to see her facial expression.
"Your friends were worried deeply. So they got you presents to make you feel better."
Looking around, I saw a small one with Parker's name on it.
"Do you want help bringing them to your room?"
"No thanks," I replied. "I'll just open them later."
"Alright, I'm going to head to bed, you should too."
"In a minute, love you."
"Love you too," mom said, closing the door behind her.I turned around, facing the small present.
Reaching for it, my phone started buzzing.
hey ;)
It was Jordyn.
Instead of answering, I left him on read. I didn't feel like talking.
Looking back at the present, I walked upstairs into my room.
* * * *
It was 3 in the morning. I still haven't slept. Curiosity kept filling in my head, wanting to know what Parker gave me. I slowly crept downstairs, seeing it laying perfectly on the round, smooth table counter.
There was a note attached to it.
"What are you doing?" Turing around, I saw Parker, watching me with suspicious eyes.
"I-I. Wait, why are you here?"
Parker walked towards me, wrapping his hands around the present."You'll just have to wait," he spat with a smirk.
Then I woke up, feeling sick.
I looked around, seeing no one around me. I started covering every inch of me in my blanket, feeling confused."It was just a bad dream," I tried convincing myself.
I saw my phone light up, Jordyn was blowing up my phone.
you doing good??
are you ok?? you usually answer faster than this
everything ok??
mae plz answer, youre scaring me
mae??
plzz answer meeeeee ;(((
Annoyed, I turned my phone off. It's nice he cares, but it's the middle of the night. So doesn't it seem like I would be asleep?
* * * *
I woke up, hearing my loud alarm blaring. I'm guessing I forgot to turn it off. Laying in bed, I looked up at the ceiling, trying to fall back asleep. It was no use, I'm not tired anymore.
I leaned up, feeling my stomach get tight.
"Crap," I muttered running to the bathroom, while covering my mouth.I ended up 'puking my guts out.' I felt like crap.
Mom walked upstairs, seeing I didn't feel good.
"Are you ok? Do you want some aspirin or something?""No thanks, I'll be fine."
"Why are you up so early?"
"Forgot to turn off my alarm," I said with a sigh."Oh, well just try to get your school-work done today while I'm gone."
"Okay,"I said with a fake smile. "Love you.""Love you too, get some rest, too."
Once I heard the door close, I ran downstairs, going to the presents. The one from Parker is still hear, it really was a dream.
Dear Mae,
I'm sorry for all the drama and pain I cause for you. You deserve better than me. Want to hear something funny? Whenever I learned we were moving back here, I got so excited. I couldn't wait to see you. But then I remembered... the incident I mean. I'm guessing I overreacted. I mean I screwed up your life. I don't know why I can't let go, it feels impossible. But if it's what you want, then I will do it for you, without hesitation. I just want what's best for you.
So forgive me of what I'm about to do. I love you.
From Parker
Confused, I opened the present. It was a beautiful, priceless necklace. It had a gold chain, with a rose-pink color. It was magnificent.
Tears started to form into my eyes. I still love him. It's impossible to stop.
I grabbed my car keys, heading to the school. Once there, I ran through the hallways, searching for Parker.
"Mae?"
Turing around, I saw him standing there. And I'll always be right, there is nothing that isn't perfect about him. He stood there tall, in a plaid shirt with some dark blue jeans. His hair flowed around his eyes, making him push his bangs out of his hair."Can I talk to you," I said, beaming.
"Um, I guess."
I lead him to the front doors of the school."Why are you here," he said, his eyes filling with concern.
"I still love you," I said, without hesitation. "And I'm sorry it's taken me awhile to realize."
"Listen, Mae-"
"Just hear me out. I can't stand being away from you. Butterflies always form whenever your around, and I still care. If I didn't, why would I be here?"
"Mae, you can't love me." Parker looked at me, with complete seriousness."What do you mean?" I looked up at him, making our eyes meet.
He turned away, and then replied," You can't Mae. I've already screwed up your life. And besides, I wrote that letter a long time ago, whenever we originally broke up. I don't love you anymore."I shifted, and then spat," Don't or can't? Look me in the eyes then and say it."
He looked at the ground, and then at my eyes. Tears started to form in his eyes, but then his face was suddenly blank."I don't love you anymore."
"I see," I gulped.
"Listen, I'm sorry-"
"No, I'm the one who's stupid enough to think you still cared. Goodbye Parker."He sighed as I walked away.
Tears started sliding down my face. I ran to my car, sitting in it for a second. I started banging on the wheel, screaming. I then saw the necklace dangling across my neck. Anger started filling through me. I ripped it off, feeling the back of my neck sting.
Sobs started escaping my mouth, making me feel even more like an idiot.
* * * *
I sat by the fireplace in the living room, my eyes wet and puffy, but I felt dried out. I kept seeing my phone blow up, but I ignored it.
I heard something start scratching the windows, making me turn.
"Hello?" The house was quiet.
I grabbed my phone, already having 911 dialed in it. I heard a door creak open. I walked towards it, looking around.Bang!
