While walking down the dark trail, I noticed halfway through that there was a light in the distance. I sped up my pace, trying to hurry and find out what it was. As I got closer, I could make out a large building. It resembled a warehouse from the distance, when I got closer I came to know I was right.
Why is there a warehouse here?
I tried to get closer to it, to inspect the grounds, pushing the bushes away from my view. I saw that there were two men in front of the building. They looked like they were guarding the entrance.
Just my luck.
I hid behind a tree, that was closer to the building. I needed to find out how to get in. Looking around once more, I spotted two more men pacing both sides of the warehouse.
Another obstacle for me.
Discovering a car across from the two men at the entrance, I decided I'd have to use one of my powers. I'd break the window shield with one of my powers. I learned over the years that I had multiple powers. It was still hard for me to control the stronger ones, since my emotions are tied into them. I rarely use them, only in a dangerous situation. It drains me.
I will never get used to my powers.
I raised my hand up, in the direction of the car. For me to be able to trigger my power, I had to get sad. I'm not talking about just a sad memory, I mean a full blown depressing moment. It was necessary. Over the years, I've learned to tie emotions to each and every one of the powers I possess. Hydro-cryokinesis, people call it. Freezing water is harder than you might think. It took me years to control it.
I started to think sad thoughts, I have plenty of them. With that, I began to work my magic. Soon the glass cracked and then completely shattered into a million pieces. The men automatically turned and ran over to the car, ten feet away from them. I took this opportunity to sprint towards the front door. There was an electrical keypad on the door handle, preventing access. I silently cursed myself.
I'll just have to melt it.
I touched the keypad and let my anger and eagerness to find Maegan leak out through my hands. The keypad started to melt slowly, too slowly. The men wouldn't be long, investigating the now destroyed window shield.
Come on!
Finally melted down, I froze it and quickly broke it off. Hopefully they wouldn't notice the broken pieces on the ground. Once opening the door and walking through the entrance, I instantly started to regret my decisions. Not because I was reckless in my strategy of getting inside of here, but because the feel inside this place was eerie. The chances of finding Maegan in this place were slim, but I couldn't give up just because it was creepy and enormous.
This place would give anyone the jeepers creepers, it was cold and dark. There were lights hanging from the ceiling, but because this place was spacious, the tall lamps did a poor job keeping away the darkness.
I nearly tripped over my own feet every time I walked, it was that dark. I still kept moving forward though, couldn't risk them coming in to find me. I heard a sobbing coming from the far right. I turned my head in the direction where I heard it coming from. There was a double door that was black, six feet away from me. I assumed it was coming from the other side of it. I practically ran to the door and yanked on the knob.
Locked.
They were serious with the security and privacy around here. It was starting to annoy me deeply. I didn't need my powers to get through this door. I backed up, raised my leg, and kicked the door with all of the strength I still had in me.
Thankfully that was enough to tear the door from its hinges. What can I say? I'm very strong. I storm in expecting to find Maegan, but instead I found cells. The room was filled with them. Judging by the looks of it, there appeared to be five cells on each side of the wall. In the middle of them was a concrete walkway. Like in the main entrance of the warehouse, there were hanging lights. Two out of the five actually worked, making it much harder to see.
What the heck? What was this pl-
More sobbing interrupted my thoughts. I walk to the first cell on the left. I found a crumpled shadow in the middle of the dreary cell.
"Maegan?" I called out.
The form raised its head, "Please help me."
I could tell from the girl's voice it wasn't Maegan.
She needed my help though too, I had to get her out of this God forsaken place.
"I'm going to get you out of here, don't worry."
The cell door had a padlock attached to the chains that wrapped around the bars. I didn't want to use a lot of my powers all at one time. I'm usually drained using them twice in one day, but my anxiousness and panic to find Maegan were the only things fueling my powers now. I didn't know for how much longer.
I fleetly froze and splintered the padlock, then removed the chains from the cell door. Abruptly the door swung open and the girl was now in front of me.
"Thank you." Was all I heard after an excruciating pain erupting from my neck, paralyzed me. I couldn't even scream, the throbbing in my neck wouldn't allow it.
I have to do something. It hurts, it hurts so bad.
In the spur of the moment, she was yanked back, off my neck, by something. I couldn't make out anything, but a sharp pierced scream. Gripping onto the bars of the cell and my neck, I look up to see an outline of a man. Her figure prevented me from seeing his face. The man was clasping the girl that had bitten me, around the neck. He gradually lifted her up in the air. The next moment I heard a twisting sound, and blood gushed everywhere, from her now headless body.
He threw the girl's head and body to the ground harshly. I couldn't tear my eyes off of the dead body before me. I couldn't process where I was, who he was, or why I was even here. Nothing seemed to form in my brain, except the man's voice.
"That's a shame."
I unhurriedly lifted my head to look at him. It was shocking to see that this man was smiling, and I noticed that his smile showed a set of fangs.
Show no fear, Raven. He'll know.
I squared my shoulders and glared at him with unhidden anger.
How could someone do that to another person? Or whatever he was and whatever she was.
No one had that right to take away life from another. I wouldn't let him get away with that.
"I assume you're looking for your friend? I'm sorry to inform you that you won't be seeing her anytime soon."
He must be the one that took her.
I was so confused underneath all of this. I still didn't understand how he had taken her, right from under my nose. Also I didn't even know who he was, what he was, what he gained from taking my friend, and what he was going to do.
"Who and what are you?" I asked with venom lacing my question.
In a flash he was two inches away from my face and lazily smirked.
"I think you have a pretty good idea of what I am."
Hearing that, all of the pressure of today came crashing into me, like a car. Before I got the chance to fall, firm hands caught my back. Darkness threatened to claim me, but before it had the chance, I gazed into a pair of the most beautiful jade colored eyes. I suddenly felt at peace, however stupid that might've sounded, I then felt nothing at all.
