"His highness requests that you come to talk with him. Please follow me." She held her pale, skinny arm out, signaling for me to follow. She was a petite blonde with dull brown eyes. My guess she was only 5'3.
"Who?" Is all I asked, staring straight into her blank, almost black eyes.
"I'm not permitted to answer that question."
My stare hardened, I was getting annoyed.
"You're not permitted or you don't want to?"
"It would be a lot easier if you would follow me. His highness is waiting for you Ms. Freeman."
As much as I didn't want to follow her, I needed to find Maegan.
"OK.." I didn't see any other option so I followed.I thought the bedroom was fancy. The bedroom wasn't even near as gorgeous as the room she led me to. Before we walked in, I knew it had to be astonishing. The way the two double doors looked, practically gave away what was beyond them. The room had two giant pillars on both sides of the red carpet, that was rolled out to a maroon wing back chair. The whole room looked as if it was made out of stone.
Someone had too much fun decorating.
I walked down three steps, then onto the red carpet. Getting closer to the chair that stood on a higher level than me. It felt like I was on trial. The way the room was set up and how there was a red carpet preceding to a chair or as I saw it, a throne. If somebody were trying to intimidate someone into spilling the beans, I'm for sure they would've brought them here. I, on the other hand, was the exception.
One point for me.
"You can leave now." A deep, melodic voice stated. It came from behind me.
I turned around so fast, I could feel my neck pop. The woman that guided me here, bowed to the person in front of her. When she advanced back up the steps we walked down, I saw him. Those jade colored eyes. I could see a hint of blue sparking out from the center.
Wumpth.
The sound of the door yanked my attention away from his eyes.
"We have things to discuss." He said, gliding past me, up to the seat. Sitting down, he leaned back, crossing one leg over the other. His stare was like ice, cold and hard.
"About what?" Was all I mustered up.
Something danced around in his gaze. I dared to say it looked like irritation. Seemingly it appeared that it was. Judging by the way he looked at me.
Like he has the right.
Choosing his words carefully he spoke, "I need your... assistance in dealing with... a certain threat."
"You're asking me for help?"
"It seems so." Annoyance dripped off of his words.
This made me enraged. Who did he think he was? First he kills someone in front of me while seemingly enjoying it, then he basically admitted he took Megan, and now he's asking me to help him? He either had a horrible sense of humor or a steel pair of rocks in the sack. He was clearly out of line either way.
"I think I'm missing something here. You think that I will help you after everything I've witnessed? I don't even know who or what you are. Clearly you're not human. No normal man could rip a head off a person. "
"It wasn't a person, per say. There are things you don't understand. I will tell you this, if you want to see Maegan alive you'll help me."
Jerk. One point for "mystery guy".
I mentally noted.
I couldn't risk Maegan's life smarting off to him though. I had already seen what he could do.
"What do you want me to do?"
He uncrossed his legs and began to lean forward. His hands gripped the armrests as he explained.
"There is a certain coven of witches that threaten my kind. They need to be exterminated before war claims this world, between the witches and the vampires. The only one that can do it is you."
"I don't understand.."
"I know what you can do Raven. Quite impressive. I'm positive that if you acquired how to control your...gifts and become versed in hand to hand combat, you could easily destroy them. Maybe even their whole race."
Panic shook me. He couldn't have known what I was... could he?
"How do you even know all of this?" I was puzzled. He couldn't have figured out my secret. No one knew of it. No one alive, anyways.
"I've been observant."
"That's it, observant?"
Unbelievable. I've spent my whole life covering up my secret and all he had to do was be observant?!
He uncovered a secret that I've been hiding for 20 years, and all he had to say for it was that he was observant? The heck with that!
"You're kidding." I was amazed and on top of it, I was sizzling with rage. I could feel my hands tingle with unshed power. Warmth started to spread throughout my body.
I saw him look down at my hands and then back up at me.
"I would put out that flame if I were you. No telling what I might do." The threat dangled in the air.
Maegan....
The fire immediately retreated.
"Now that we understand each other. There's one more detail you should know. I think you'll love this part."
"What?"
"The coven I want destroyed, is the same coven that killed your family......I think you should be well motivated now. Don't you think?"
Remembering what had happened seven years ago, slapped me in my face. A memory that still haunted me. Hurt gripped my body, not letting me go. I could feel my throat clench, teeth grit, and vengeance flare. He was right. I was motivated. If he was telling the truth I'd do it, not just to save Maegan, but to take down all of them. Every. Last. One.Thank you for reading!
