Sam has been the new kid enough in his lifetime that he isn't even nervous for his first day of school. Rightfully so, it seems, because, he realizes when he gets to school, no one cares that he's new. Even though it's a small school, he's left alone while looking for his first block. No one picks on him, and no one tries to befriend him. He's fine with that. The only thing he does wish is that someone would help him find it.
"Hey," a boy greets him suddenly. Sam had been so distracted by the room numbers, he hadn't even seen him approach. "You look lost. Need some help?"
Sam hesitates before admitting he does. He doesn't like to admit he needs help ever. Coming from such an independent family, it's almost an insult to need help. Still, the boy seems friendly enough.
"Uh, yeah. I'm looking for... AP Latin?" He shows him his schedule.
He grins. "Wow, that's where I'm heading too!" he laughs. "Come on, I'll show you."
Sam nods, grateful for his help. "Thanks."
"I'm Gabriel, by the way," he tells him.
"Sam Winchester," he responds.
"Salve, Sam," Gabriel says, pronouncing it "Sal-way," the way it's pronounced in Latin.
"Salve to you too," he replies. He's been taking Latin long enough to know that means "hello."
"Alright, Sam, let's go learn us some Latin!"

Dean has no problem finding some people to hang out with. As soon as he gets to school, he leaves Sam, giving his usually "If anyone touches you, tell me and I'll beat their ass," before doing so. He heads to the first girl he sees; a beautiful red-haired chick. She's standing alone, waiting just inside the school. Dean swoops in, giving her his most charming smile.
"Hey girl," he greets her.
"'Sup, boy?" she replies.
"Well, I saw a pretty girl standing over here, and I thought, 'Hey? Why is someone so beautiful all alone?' So, I decided to bless you with my company."
She giggles. "Hey, I'm Anna," she introduces herself.
"Dean," he replies.
"You're new, aren't you?"
He nods. "As a matter of fact, I am," he agrees. "How'd you know?"
"Because I would have noticed someone this hot around here." She gives him a grin.
"Huh, I was thinking the same thing about you," he tells her. "It must be destiny!"
She laughs. "I'm not so sure about that but hey, I've been wrong before."
"So, what are you doing out here all alone?" Dean asks.
"Well, I was waiting with my brother, but he went to class already," Anna tells him. "Like, ten minutes ago. Always the first one to show up, and never complains."
"And are you ditching?" he asks.
She laughs. "Oh, no way. My parents would kill me if I ditched class! I just hate my teacher, so I figured I'd spend as little time as possible in there."
Dean tries not to show his disappointment that she's a good girl. She always goes to class, even if it is her parents' doing. No making out during class time, apparently, but hey, there are always other times during the day. He debates what his next move should be quickly. Seeing as she's probably a pretty good girl, it seems he should try to be a fairly good guy.
"In that case, would you mind showing me where I can find my class?" he asks, pulling out his schedule. What's his first class again? Oh, right. English.
"Actually, that's the room my brother's in, I think," she tells him. "Come on, I'll show you."
They chat on the way there, talking about everything from favorite animals to best family trips. Anna was pretty surprised at the number of places Dean had been, but Dean is used to that reaction. Not a lot of people travel as much as the Winchesters, especially in school. Finally, they make it to the room, and Anna stops him.
"Alright, just so you know, my brother says that the teacher is super chill, so you can basically do whatever you want. Pick somewhere you think you can have fun at." With that, she brings him to the doorway, and Dean gives her a winning smile before looking for a seat.
Anna waves at the boy in the very front of the room, surrounded by empty chairs. He must be her brother, though they look nothing alike. He has dark hair casually messed up while still somehow looking neat, and his eyes are a beautiful shade of blue. It's almost a fake blue, as if it shouldn't exist naturally. He wears a trench coat, and if the fact no one sits near him isn't enough to prove that he's not a very popular person, that is. He gives Anna a small smile in reply, and she leaves, apparently satisfied.
Dean tries to find a seat in the back of the room where he usually sits, but there are none. The only available seats are the ones next to the blue-eyed boy, so, hesitantly, Dean sits in one. Everyone is chatting, and usually Dean would be among the loudest in the room. Unfortunately, he's next to the only one in the room that doesn't make a sound. He tries anyway, hoping he'll find the boy is actually secretly as loud as the others.
"Hey, I'm Dean," he greets the boy.
The boy glances over at him quickly, then looks at him completely as if just now realizing Dean is talking to him.
"I am Castiel," he replies quietly.
"Nice to meet you, Cas," Dean says with a smile he hopes doesn't look too forced. "So, is Anna your sister?"
Castiel nods. "Yes," he replies simply.
Dean purses his lips, trying to find something else to talk about. Castiel isn't making it very easy. "So, Cas, what do you do for fun?"
Castiel shrugs. "I help my sister with homework?" He says it more of a question than a statement.
That's it? That's this guy's idea of fun? Dean didn't realize people could be that boring. Even Sam, the master of doing nothing, was more fun than that. No offense to Sam, of course, but if someone asked Sam what he does for fun, he wouldn't have much of an answer either. Still, homework is the opposite of fun.
"Play any sports?" Dean tries again.
Castiel shakes his head. "No."
Dean nods as if interested, but really is just tying to buy some time before he asks another question.
"So, what's your favorite animal?"
Castiel thinks about this for a moment. "Bees."
"Bees?" he repeats incredulously.
Castiel nods. "Yes. I followed a honeybee in the garden."
Dean can't help but laugh. "You have a garden?" he asks, glad he has some prompt.
"Yes."
"What do you grow in the garden?"
Castiel shrugs. "I'm not quite sure. It's my dad's garden. I just go out for the bees."
"Why do you like bees?" Dean asks.
Castiel shrugs again. "They're very interesting creatures," he says. "It's amazing what such a small thing can do in its lifetime."
"Do you study bees or something?"
"No, I just watch them outside."
Dean nods. "Have you ever been stung by a bee?"
"No. I leave the bees alone, and they leave me alone." Castiel pauses. "Well, once a bee landed on my shoulder."
"Did it sting you?" Dean asks, confused as to how this fits into the conversation, if this can even be called one.
"No, but it did not leave me alone when I left it alone."
"Ah," is all Dean says. What is up with this guy's fascination with bees? "What other animals do you like?"
"I like all animals," Castiel replies.
"Even poisonous snakes and giant spiders?" Dean asks jokingly.
"Of course," Castiel replies. "I love all animals. It isn't their fault they're poisonous, or they have a bad reputation."
Dean laughs. "Wow, you really like bugs, don't you?"
"A snake is not a bug," Castiel says.
Dean nods. "Touché. So, Cas, you have any pets?"
"Well, I, uh... I have my bees."
Dean can't help but laugh again. This guy's a riot. What makes it funny is that he isn't even trying to be funny! This seems to just be who he is.
"I know you've got a sister," Dean says, wondering if he'll get another funny answer, "but what other siblings do you have?"
Counting off his fingers, he replies, "Michael, Lucifer, Gabriel, Anna, and me. There are five of us. You'll probably meet Lucifer and Gabriel."
"Why?"
"Because they're everywhere," Castiel replies. "And they're loud. And it's hard not to notice them."
Dean grins at that answer. Sounds like his type of people. "What about your other brother?"
"You probably won't meet him anytime soon," he replies. "His classes are mostly online because they're at such a high level, they don't offer them at the school, and he's quiet in the classes he does take here. At least, that's what Lucifer says."
"Why does Lucifer know?"
"They're in the same class," he replies. "For one of them. I'm sure Michael would rather not be, though."
"What, Michael doesn't like Lucifer?"
Castiel shakes his head. "No, it's not that. Lucifer just draws too much attention to himself, and Michael doesn't like that."
Something suddenly occurs to Dean. Michael, Lucifer, Gabriel? All angel names. Even Castiel sounds like one, though not one he'd heard of. Anna, he isn't sure about. It sounds too normal to be angelic, but the girl definitely seems like an angel to him. The family must be pretty religious. Maybe it's just a coincidence, though. After all, who names their kid after the devil?
"And you?" Castiel asks suddenly, snapping Dean out of his trance.
"And me what?" Dean asks, confused.
"Do you have any siblings?"
Dean nods. "Yeah, I've got a younger brother named Sam."
"How old is Sam?
"14," Dean replies immediately. He's heard of people having to calculate their sibling's ages, but he's never understood it. He's always known exactly how old Sam was. Ever since he could remember, he's been in charge of planning birthday parties for his brother when John wasn't around to tell them not to. Granted, the party would end up being the two of them watching a movie, but they'd get all Sam's favorite foods and Dean would find the bigger came he could. He's never been able to make a cake, since they never had a kitchen, but Sam didn't mind. As long as the cake was from Dean, it didn't matter who made it. It was still all Dean to him.
"Freshman?"
Dean nods. "Yep. You probably won't see him much. Or at all. Other than AP Latin, he's in all freshmen classes.
"He doesn't have Latin now, does he?"
Dean nods. "Yeah, actually. Why?"
"I believe he's in my brother Gabriel's class," Castiel tells him. "Good luck to him."
Dean laughs. "Is Gabriel bad?"
Castiel shrugs. "Not bad, per se, but he isn't the most fun to be stuck in a class with. I guarantee that if Sam complains to you about one kid from that class, it will be Gabriel. He always has a way to annoy you, especially when you lease want to be annoyed.
