Despite Castiel's warning to Dean, Sam and Gabriel have a great time in class. They sit together in the back of the room, Sam's favorite place to sit. They get to class early, so they have time to kill, which is something Sam isn't looking forward to. He isn't very good at making conversation. Luckily, Gabriel seems to have it under control.
"So, Sam, where are you from?" he asks, not in a way to kill time, but like he actually cares about Sam.
"I move around a lot," Sam tells him. "I'm originally from Kansas but the last place I lived was... Tennessee." It takes him a moment to remember. He was only there for a week or so.
"How many other places have you lived?"
Sam counts them on his fingers as he says them. "Okay... Utah, Vermont, Texas, Connecticut, Nevada, Alabama, Washington, Washington D.C., Arizona, and I was just in Tennessee, and now I'm in California."
"So, what, you move basically every year?"
"Uh, no, that was all this year. I can't even remember most of the places I've been."
Gabriel looks shocked. "That's like... Every month!" he says. "Why?"
"My dad moves around a lot for work," Sam tells him.
"What's your dad do?"
"He's a mechanic," Sam lies. It's the same lie he tells everyone that asks him. After all, "kills monsters" doesn't pass by very well, and "hunter" isn't a job.
"Wow, wouldn't have thought a mechanic would move around so much," Gabriel says. "That's cool though."
"How many places have you lived?" Sam asks.
"I've lived here as long as I can remember," Gabriel tells him.
That surprises Sam, though he knows it shouldn't. The idea that someone can stay in the same place for so long surprises him. He's lived his whole life moving from place to place. As much as he doesn't like it, he can't imagine staying in one place either.
"How long have you been taking Latin?" Sam asks.
Gabriel shrugs. "Not sure. My parents got my siblings and I learning languages when we were really young. I don't really know when I learned a lot of the languages I know. I don't even know how many languages I know!"
Sam laughs. "Really? Do you know what languages you don't know?"
Gabriel shakes his head. "Nope! I just always know what someone is saying, no matter what language it is. And I can respond too, without thinking about it."
"Wow!" Sam says. "That's so cool! I wish I knew a bunch of languages."
"Yeah, it's pretty cool."
The bell rings and class begins, which disappoints both boys. They were having so much fun talking to each other, they don't want to start learning again. Still, they listen to the teacher and they do their work, only a small amount of unnecessary conversation during it. Okay, a lot of it, but Sam doesn't mind, even when the teacher tells them to stop. He's having so much fun with Gabriel, and he doesn't want to stop talking. Sam may not be the best at making friends, but he definitely has one here, and it's great.

"Hey, can you help me find this room?" Dean asks Castiel, showing him the schedule. Class is just about to end, and Dean has no clue where he's going. At first, he was hoping they wouldn't have to see each other again, but after a class of chatting with each other, Dean's decided he's not the bad. Not Dean's favorite person, of course, but there are worse people to talk to.
"Yeah, I'll show you," he says, and as soon as the bell rings, they leave, trying to get ahead of the crowd of people leaving the room. Castiel takes him down a few hallways, and they end up at Dean's room pretty close to when the bell rings. "Here you go," Castiel says.
"Ay, Cassie!" a tall boy tells from the back of the room, sitting on the top of one of the desks. "Whatcha doin' here?"
"Leaving," Castiel replies quietly.
"What, you don't want to talk to your big bro?"
"I have to get to class," Castiel tells him, though it seems more like he just want to get away from the boy that apparently is his brother.
"Aw, come on, Cassie!" the boy says loudly. "Don't go to class. Stay with us! You know you want to."
"Lucifer, leave him alone," a boy says from the the front corner of the room. He's quiet but intimidating.
"Aw, but Michael, don't you want Cassie to join us?" Lucifer asks.
"I think Castiel want to go to his class," Michael tells him, "and I think you should let him."
Lucifer frowns. "You're no fun."
Michael shrugs. "I can live with that."
Castiel mouths "thank you" at Michael before quickly walking away. Dean, after watching the whole event, searches for a seat. After watching that, he can tell Lucifer is probably the most fun person in the room, so that's who he sits with.
"Hey, I'm Dean," he introduces himself.
"Lucifer."
"You're Castiel's brother, right?"
Lucifer nods. "Yep. And that's our other brother, Michael, up front. Bit of a downer, if you haven't noticed."
Dean chuckles. "Yeah."
"So, I take it you're new here," Lucifer says.
"Yep."
"You'll hate it," he tells the other boy.
"This class, or the school?"
"All of it," Lucifer replies. "But it's only a few hours, and then you get to do whatever the hell you want!"
Dean laughs. "Yep. My favorite part of school is leaving."
Lucifer nods. "Ain't that the truth! Hey, where you from?"
"I was born in Kansas, but I move around a lot," he answers vaguely. He always hates explaining this, because to most people, moving seems like the worst thing possible. To Dean, it's just part of life.
"Where else have you been?"
"Everywhere," Dean replies, hoping Lucifer will drop it.
"How about Maine? That's pretty far away."
Dean nods. "Yeah, I was there last year." It was during the summer, so he and Sam got to help on the hunt. They thought it was a ghost case, but it ended up being witches. It was one of Dean's favorite of the hunts he's been on. It only lasted a few days, but it felt great to hunt.
"How about... Florida?" Lucifer asks.
Dean nods again. "I've been to every state in the country, but never left the country," he says, hoping that's all Lucifer wants to hear.
"Wow, that's a lot of places," he says. "Just... Wow."
Dean shrugs. It doesn't seem like a lot to him. After all, he's only been in the country. It's not like he goes to Africa in his spare time or anything like that. There are enough cases in the US alone to last a while.
Before Lucifer can say anything else, the teacher walks in. Dean's relived for the break in the conversation. It doesn't matter to him that he has to work now, because he doesn't have to talk about moving anymore. Any excuse to stop is welcome to him. Lucifer still talks to him throughout class, even when they should be working, and Dean's glad. He hates school, so mostly any break from it is welcome, even if it's someone complaining about their brothers. As long as it keeps his life out of the conversation, Dean's fine with any of it.

Michael never expected to see Castiel at the door. It's a senior only class, and Castiel is only a sophomore. Besides, he knows better than to go near Lucifer at school. Lucifer doesn't hate his siblings, but he loves to pick on them, and Castiel hates the spotlight as much as Michael does. Michael stepped in, not for Castiel specifically, but because it's his job to make sure Lucifer isn't picking on people. The fact it was Castiel made him question his role, because they aren't anywhere near as close as most sibling are, but he will knew he had to step in. Castiel was grateful, which is what Michael had hoped for.
The boy Castiel came in with confused Michael. Castiel doesn't talk to anyone. It's the one thing Michael knows they have in common. The fact the boy is more like Lucifer than Michael only serves to surprise him more. Why would Castiel be talking to anyone like Lucifer, if he loves to stay under the radar?
Michael tries to get it off his mind. It's not his business who his brothers hang out with. If Castiel is breaking out of his shell, Michael shouldn't question it. If anything, he should be glad. If there's one thing he's learned from his 12 years of school, it's that being shy is no picnic, especially with so many louder brothers. Michael mentally congratulates his littlest brother. If only he could do the same.
