Chapter 19
Patience was never one of my strongest virtues. So you can imagine exactly how agitated I felt as I rocked back and forth, waiting for Nate to come. It was a two hour drive from the school, and it had only been fifty minutes since I called.
The life of the party never seemed to dim throughout the whole time. Hiccups were all that remained from my earlier sobbing fit. Tears just started to dry on my cheek.
As I sat behind the bushes, I was very wary of my surroundings. Memories of the old guy forcing his lips on mine made me gag, and I was scared something like that would happen again.
"Why are you here? The life of the party is over there" I whipped my head up to see a slightly buzzed Jesse standing there, slightly swaying. I stood up and wiped the dirt off my dress.
"I just... needed quiet" I whispered, my voice hoarse. I felt goosebumps cover my skin as Jesse took a step towards me. A fire ignited inside me, one that made me despise our closeness.
"Well, come on, lets go back to the party. I'll get you a drink" he took ahold of my hand and started pulling me along with him. It was surprising to see how strong his grip was even though he was drunk. I tripped over my own feet as he pulled me behind.
"Jesse, I don't want..." I was cutoff my the loud cheering all around us. I was practically muted by the loud noises. I swallowed down the lump if fear lodged in my throat as we got deeper into the crowd. "Jesse, let go of me" I insisted, struggling.
"Here, drink this" he suddenly said, handing me a cup of a very suspicious looking drink. I swirled around the yellowish liquid, and scrunched up my nose at the strong stench.
"What's even in it" I croaked out. Tears swelled in my eyes again. How had I gotten myself into such a mess.
"Cocaine, marijuana , licorice and vodka. It's really delicious once you try it" He said enthusiastically, shoving the cup towards me. I gasped in horror and threw the cup to the ground. Before turning, and once again, running, trying my best to jostle through the crowds, back to where Nate said he'd pick me up.
"Abigail?" I faintly heard. I knew it was Nate's voice. I really had no idea of how long I'd been stuck in that crowd.
"Nathaniel? Wait for me" I shouted to no one in particular. I started shoving people, desperately craving the comfort Nate always seemed to have for me. I finally managed to get out of the masses of people and saw Nate in the distance.
"Abby!" He shouted. I looked around frantically until I spotted him. I'd never felt happier to see someone. I practically ran towards him.
"Nate!" I shouted. He finally saw me and ran towards me. I didn't hesitate to wrap myself around him, literally jumping into his arms. My hands tightly held onto the back of his neck. His familiar woodsy smell instantly calmed me. "You came" I finally whispered, pulling back to look into his blue eyes. My eyes were pooled with tears.
