AUTHOR'S NOTE: Hello! I am so grateful for the love this story has gotten over the years and that it has reached 2 million reads! A big thank you! This was my first successful story on this account!

For new readers: I will eventually circle back and edit this and the entire series. In the meantime, please give it a chance! I started writing this when I was 12 but was working on the 5th book in the series when I was 16 or 17, so my writing has improved over the length of the series! I think if you can get through Books 1-3, you will really enjoy books 4 and 5!

Chapter 1: The Writings On The Wall

Harley's POV

"OPEN THIS DOOR YOU WORTHLESS PIECE OF SHIT!" I heard my dad yell from the other side of the door as he banged on it with all of his strength.

"NO!" I cried and put all my weight against the door, but it wasn't much. I could feel the white wooden door bending as he pounded on the other side. Tears barreled down my face as I dug my bare feet into the carpet. Suddenly, I had an idea. I was going to run away.

I grabbed a chair and jammed it against the door. I grabbed the closest pair of shoes and slipped them onto my feet. I grabbed a bag, throwing the things I needed the most in it, and ripped open my window. I put the bag on my back and jumped out of the window. I landed on the ground with a grunt and started running. As I ran, I heard my bedroom door gave way and a monstrous scream.

"HARLEY!" My dad's voice echoed through the neighborhood. I just kept running, my throat becoming dry and my chest burning. I ran until I couldn't run anymore, until my lungs were screaming for a break. I was a good distance from my house, so I started walking. It wasn't like that lazy sack of shit was going to come running after me anyway.

I was hoping I could handle my dad's abuse until I turned 18 in just a few months, but it just got to be too much. I took a moment to take in my surroundings, trying to figure out where I was and what my next steps would be. I stood on my tiptoes, my 5'3" frame not helping with my need to see where I am.

I pushed my long black hair out of my face, pulling a few strands off of my sweaty forehead. In the distance, I saw a park and started jogging towards it. I sat down on a bench and pulled out my phone. I used the camera to look at my appearance. My tattoos were peaking out of my right shirt sleeve. I readjusted my snakebites and nose piercing until they were in a comfortable spot. My blue and purple streaks in my hair barely stood out against my black hair in the moonlight. My deep blue eyes blended in with the night as well. Blending in was for the best currently.

I stared down at my phone, trying to figure out what to do next. I can't just sleep on this park bench. I then decided to call the one person I could trust.

Jinxx.
