Jihoon stretched and pried open his crusty eyes. The first thing that hit him was how light it was, normally he woke up when it was darker. A flash of alarm swept through him. Did I not wake up? Are my members worried? He quickly stood and glanced around the room. It was empty. The members' beds were made neatly. Seungcheol walked in.
"Jihoon, you're up." He said, slightly surprised.
"I'm sorry! I overslept!" Seungcheol gave him a confused look.
"No you didn't. I got a day off for us because everyone has been working hard and you needed rest. So we are taking a "healing" day." The things he needed to do that day suddenly hit him. He grabbed his phone and checked the screen. A missed call and two text messages. He unlocked the phone and read the messages. They were from his sister, telling him what time the funeral was. Four. It's at four. I have six hours. "Jihoon? Are you okay?"
"Yes Hyung." Jihoon sighed and flopped down on his bed.
"Do you want to sleep some more?"
"Aniyo. I should get up." Seungcheol nodded and left the room. Jihoon got up and walked into the thankfully empty bathroom. He showered and dressed then walked into the kitchen to see most of the members either sitting at the small table or leaning against counters. They stared at him as he walked in and he felt like a germ under a microscope. Their gazes weren't cold, thankfully, but just curious and thoughtful. His face was expressionless as he greeted them.
"Good morning." He mumbled, bowing.
"Morning Jihoon." Most of the members chorused. There was one who kept his head down and avoided Jihoon's gaze. Playing my own game, is he? Jihoon stared at Soonyoung, who ignored him. Jun and Mingyu began setting out plates of food and the attention was drawn off of Jihoon.
He ate some of the food, but he felt sick so he ended up giving Seungkwan the rest. Seungkwan's grin barely faltered when he saw Jihoon's face. When they finished the brunch they all sat in the living room to talk.
"What do you guys want to do today?" Seungcheol asked. "We should do stuff together."
"I have somewhere to be at four." Jihoon said quietly. The members stared at him. They were doing a lot of staring that day.
"Where is it? What do you need to do?" Seungcheol asked calmly. Jihoon panicked a little.
"It's nothing important." He said hastily.
"Then don't go." A voice from the back said. Jihoon scanned the circle of faces. His eyes landed on Soonyoung.
"I'm leaving at three thirty." He clarified, staring at Soonyoung the entire time, as if to get a message across. Soonyoung glared at the floor. This strange behavior did not go unnoticed by some of the older members.
"Should we go to the park? The beach? The pool?" Seungcheol butted in, wanting to end the electric gazes being shot across the room.
"The beach!" Most of Seventeen yelled excitedly. A stone sunk in Jihoon's stomach. He wrapped his arms around his body and looked down at the ground.
"The beach it is!"
They climbed onto a stifling bus with loaded bags. Jihoon's held next to nothing. All he had in there was a small snack, sunscreen, his phone, and water. The bus was large enough for him to get his own seat, which didn't happen. Despite the three open seats in the middle of the bus, Seungcheol slid in next to him. He didn't even wait for the bus to start before he got serious.
"What is going on between you and Soonyoung?"
"Nothing."
"It's obviously not nothing. You two used to get on fairly well. Is this really because of him wanting to know more about you?" When he puts it that way, it makes me seem dumb and like I was overreacting.
