Aye oh! My name is Ophleia and honestly, if there was an adventure I wouldn't recommend... it would be traveling for days by a canoe in a massive thunderstorm.
Interviewer: Well Ophelia, I appreciate your honesty. Can you please tell me a little about yourself?
Ophelia: Well, I am pretty sure that it is obvious that I am a bit of a tom-girl. I grew up in the town of Fair Field, Iowa, but my grandparents lived on a farm just outside of it. I enjoy the outdoors and spending time on the farm, but more than anything I love traveling. At least under normal circumstances. I was hoping to travel internationally after graduation, but with the mass flooding... I don't think there is anywhere for planes to take off, let alone land.
Interviewer: Thank you. Could you please tell me a little about how you ended up traveling with the group?
Ophelia: Uhm... well... it wasn't one of my proudest moments. I had reached the end of my rope, given up all hope. That's when Hannah and Adrian found me. It makes me shiver when I think what may have happened if they hadn't come. At the time I was rather upset that they disturbed my plans, but they gave me hope... so I knew I had to keep going.
Interviewer: Oh. Did this affect your relationship with Hannah? Weren't you friends before this point?
Ophelia: We were good friends in school. It was kind of an interesting friendship, because we were somewhat of an anomaly. She is very much a prep at our school. She wears the make-up, walks the walk, talks the talk... and I am a lot more introverted and I wear my nerdiness with pride most days. Except, when we were traveling our friendship was falling apart. You see, I was questioning life, the point of even trying to find safety, and struggling with some of my past decisions... on top of questioning Hannah's decision to bring Adrian along.
Interviewer: Why were you questioning her decision to let Adrian travel with you?
Ophelia: He isn't exactly an angel. I'm not either, but his past was causing us to struggle ten times more than was necessary. The first time we ran into his old gang and met RazorBlade (the gang leader), I was certain that we were going to die. And when they stole all of our things and left us to starve... I was even more ticked. However, Hannah kept standing up for Adrian. That's what bothered me the most. She kept standing up for him when I was certain he was on the gang's side. That he was bringing them to us!
Interviewer: Is this still how you feel?
Ophelia: I'm not sure. I mean... things are certainly changing. Hannah and I talk a little bit more, but because her canoeing buddy is Adrian... I still feel rather distant.
Interviewer: Thank you. Do you have anything else you would like to add?
Ophelia: This adventure sure made me question God a lot. Whether He even exists. He promised not to wipe out the whole population with another flood... When we left, the weather had already washed out eleven states. I wish I knew if the rest of the globe was being impacted and if this storm would ever end.
