Rachel has spent the last week in a somber mood trying her best to be there for her sister. It has become aware that she has spent to much time focusing on teaching and glee maybe to often that she forgot one important person. One Very important person in her life and she feels guilty and made the decision to be as active as she can but also overwhelmed. Making her feel so guilty that she feels that way when she knows that Melanie is losing the only person who has been beside her, her entire life. And then thrown into a strangers house, granted a sibling. Her only sibling at that. It hasn't been a easy adjustment for her and it should not have to be for Melanie. Most kids her age would be spiraling, with every right to be. She tried so hard to be tough, but eventually the wall falls down and true colors are shown. As her big sister Rachel was just happy she could let all the pain and fear she has been bottling up, and let it out. It was eating Melanie up and she can't keep it all in. It broke Rachel and Finns heart to see Her so. As Rachel held her and stayed with her all night and cried herself to sleep.
That's maybe what inspired this week's lesson. Not sadness but for the Glee Club this week to perform songs that inspire or lift their spirits up in tough times. And I think its great for everyone to talk of this. As it's human to be sad. And she wants everyone to have that reminder. She needs that herself. Not to overshadow Melanie's pain. But her and Finn signed the legal documents to be Melanie's legal guardians and spent time to get it legally notarized. She wouldn't change her decision at all, but she is sad at this is how it must be. No one would ever want to see any young adolescent girl go through the pain of losing there only relative and there mother at that
She is pulled from her thoughts as her students begin piling in to attend this week's first day of glee club. Rachel waits as everyone piles in, standing near the white board in the middle of the room, black whiteboard marker in her hand. As soon as she sees everyone is seated, she writes the word "uplifting" on the board. "This weeks lesson is uplifting" she speaks aloud "This week I feel this is the perfect lesson, I feel with the stress that each of you students face, seperatelly or individually, at school or home, all of you face your own stress and challenges. And despite it all you overcome, I want to show what music inspires you or makes you feel uplifted or better in those times, this weeks theme is uplifting. I look forward to hearing all your song choics. It can be solo, duet or groups. But I would love to start us off with a song lately that has been my go to" Rachel proclaims proudly before going to sing the song to the class before they need to go back to there classes.
Rachel chose a song that has been her main song on repeat in the car when she drives on her lonesome as she hasn't wanted Melanie or Finn to hear when they have tons to worry about already, and doesn't want them to be more upset or ob=verhwlemed. Music has always been her relief and glad glee club provided her that, and hopes this glee club version provides that to these children, her children. She knows Melanie will now see her sisters fears through the song, but with the exsisiting circumstances she wants to be open with her sister, and wants melanie to know she will always be there for her. They may not have had the opportunity to know each other there whole lives, but she is her sister and she loves her.
The music begins...
How can you miss someone
you've never met?'Cause I need you now but I
don't know you yetBut can you find me soon
because I'm in my headYeah, I need you now but I
don't know you yet'Cause lately its been hard
They're selling me for parts
And I don't wanna be modern art
But I only got half a heart
To give to youHow can you miss someone
you've never seen?Oh tell me,are your eyes
brown, blue,or green? And do you like it with sugar
and cream?Or do you take it straight,oh,
just like me?Yeah, lately its been hard
They're selling me for parts
And I don't wanna be modern art
But I only got half a heart
To give to youAnd I hope it's enough
ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh
ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh
ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh
ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, oohHow can you miss someone
you've never met?'Cause I need you now but I
don't know you yetBut can you find me soon
because I'm in my head?Yeah, I need you now but I
don't know you yetI need you now but I
don't know you yetI need you now but I
don't know you yetI need you now but I
don't know you yetI need you now but I
don't know you yetRachel finishes her songs and thanks Brad for helping her, She turns around to compose herself for a moment. This was the song that she played shortly after, and on repeat consistently when Shelby came back and told her she had a sister. Ultimately telling her she has a sister she never knew or met, after the anger and her inner sadness, she had curiousity. She wanted to know this stranger, her only biological sister, she always wanted one. She had her girls from high school but this as different. She didn't feel thrown into sisterhood, she wamted to know all she could know, and this song helped her through one of the biggest changes in her and Melanie's life. And when Rachel needs a uplifting reminder that she not only has a sister, but a best friend as well, someone she will always love and protect. Plus its always a reminder that the unexpected can be a blessing in disguise. They need each other, but she will do everything in her power to be Melanies protector and family.
The bell rings, all the students grab their bags and head out single-file to head back to their normal schedule. She didn't expect it but melanie was the last to leave. She stopped and faced her sister and gave her a hug for as long as she could before the next bell rang, the warning bell. Melanie simply nods and heads off to her class. There was a unsaid energy amomgst them but it was enough to know they understood Rachel's song choice, and that was all these two sisters needed for now.
