Walking in late on the first day is one of the most embarrassing things ever. Especially being new and confused.
When I walked in, all eyes were on me. I never got this kind of attention, EVER. I kinda like it.
"Hola, senorita!" The teacher yelled from her desk.
"WHAT?" I yelled back.
All the kids started laughing.
"She's saying 'Hello, ma'am.'" A light skinned boy in the front said, chuckling.
"You really be paying attention, don't you? Teachers' pet." Another boy in the back said.
I started laughing and sat in a seat next to him. He's a cutie with pretty brown eyes and a low haircut. The way he dressed for the first day is so different. He has his own style.
"I think I found my school crush." I whispered to myself, looking at his shoes.
"Huh? What you say?" He said looking dead at me.
"Um, I said I like your shoes." I said, kind of nervous.
"Oh. Thanks baby girl."
Baby girl? Was he flirting? Or is that how he talked? I couldn't do anything but smile. He is so cute, I got to find out his name.
"So! Class, since it's the first day we won't be doing too much Spanish. We're just going to go around the room and introduce ourselves. I'll go first, my name is Andrea Gonzalez. But you will call me Mrs. Gonzalez. I am full blooded Mexican, and I like hot food, like most Mexicans." She said with a snicker.
"I'm 37 years old and I have 4 kids. That's all you need to know. Okay, let's start in the back. You!"
She pointed to me. "What's your name, tell us about yourself. Besides that your always late."
Why do I have to go first? What I was going to say?
"Yeah, stand up and tell us about yourself." The cute boy next to me said with a smile.
I stood up, looking at everyone.
Just be yourself.
"Okay. Hi, I'm Camryn Willis. I'm 14 and a freshman. I'm new to the city and the school. Um, that's it I guess. What else y'all want to know?"
The cute boy raised his hand.
I started laughing and pointed to him. "Yes?"
"I actually have a question and a statement."
"Ask the question on your own time. We have to get around the whole room." Mrs. Gonzalez said to him. "You may sit down Camryn. Next, you. The one with all of the questions."
He stood up, cleared his throat in a goofy manner.
"Wassup y'all! I'm Kendrick Roberts. I'm 14 but I will be 15 in 2 weeks. I play basketball and football. You will see me on the court and also the field this school year." He said in a childish voice, trying to be funny.
Hmm, 14 year old Kendrick. I got to remember that. I thought.
"Are you actually good? Or will you be a benchwarmer?" I said, in a flirtatious voice.
"Yeah, I am. You will see when the seasons come." He said as he sat down.
Mrs. Gonzalez went around the room, this girl Katie was from Alabama and she had a weird accent. Another girl, her name was Kyla and she was gay. Her hair was cut and she doesn't like being called girl. She wants everyone to use boy terms when we're referring to her. Well him.
"Psssst." I heard Kendrick say.
"What?" I said in a whisper.
"When the bell ring, meet me outside the classroom so I can ask you the question I wanted to ask you and tell you the statement I have."
I totally forgot about that question. What could it be? It couldn't be anything serious, I hope not.
Today was the first day and I feel like I've been here forever.
Ding!
That was the bell.
