"Do you have to go Blanchie?" I asked, staring up at my big brother. He grinned and scratched me behind the ears.
"Yeah, someone's gotta protect the family, right?" He crouched down so he could face me properly, "think about it, I'll be the knight in shining travelling on a long journey to save my baby sister, who is a princess in distress~"
High pitched giggles trailed from my mouth. He always knew how to make me smile.
"Princess of the Owls?" I asked, grinning.
"Princess of the Owls~" her rustled my hair and hugged me.
"I'll miss you."
"I'll miss you too Vivvy." He whispered in my ear, "but I'll be back soon. Aqui will take care of ya."
"But I don't want Aqui! You're the only one who stands up to father!" I cried, "and you have the scar to prove it!" I pulled his fringe up, revealing his eyepatch covered eye.
"You have the scars as well." He tentatively touched a scar running across my full arm, my skin trembled underneath his touch.
"I don't want you to go..."
"I have to." He stood up and kissed my forehead. Tema passed him a backpack and he slung it over his shoulder, and strode out the door.
"Blanc!" I screamed, "Blanchie PLEASE! HE'LL KILL ME!" Tears burned my eyes and I collapsed to the floor, watching my big brother leave. He wouldn't be back for two years.
Two years.
I'll be 12 by then.
I felt small arms wrap around me.
"It's gonna be okay Vi. I'll protect you." Blue hair hung in front of my face.
"Aqui... never leave." I sobbed.
"I won't. I promise you that." She stroked my cheek and picked me up. Carrying me to my room.
A uncoordinated owl flew down and landed on my shoulder, hooting lovingly,
"Lilas won't leave you either." Aqui giggled, smiling like a goofball.
My eyes closed. And I fell asleep.*****
Blanc stood in front of me, although he wasn't facing me.
"Blanchie?" I squeaked, "You're back already?"
He didn't reply. Soon, a figure was standing next to him, a shorter one, with bluish-green hair. It was messy and short. The figure turned around. It was a boy.
I couldn't see his face. But his arms seemed tan.
"W-who are you?"
I saw a smirk under the shadowy face.
He walked towards me and grabbed my shoulders firmly. And then I fell. I fell through nothingness....
And then I woke up.*****
"Wake up Violet." Aqui cooed, "I have a surprise for you!"
I sat up slowly and stared at her, frowning, "you know I don't like surprises..."
"This is a good one!" She sat down on my bed and pulled out a piece of paper, "Seeing as Blanc is gone, and he pretty much taught you everything... I was thinking you should start attending school!" She smiled, "I rand up the little one in the town, and they said they'd gladly have you."
"S-school... won't father be upset?" I asked nervously.
"No. I asked him. He said yes." She replied.
"Father said yes?" My head ached with confusion.
"He said 'As long as I don't have to look at her' so yes! He said yes!" She hugged me.
I smiled and hugged her back.*****
"This isn't comfortable at all..." I grimaced at the maroon coloured skirt and the ugly white button up polo.
"You look fine sweetie!" Aqui giggled, tying my hair back in a bun.
I pushed her away and looked in the mirror. I tugged my fringe out of the bun and sighed, "That's Aqui."
"No problem princess." She smiled, "now let's get going! You'll be late!"
She handed me a backpack and pushed me out the door, waving and closing it.
I sighed again, "well. No going back now."It too about 5 minutes to reach the school. I headed straight to the office and had a quick talk with the principal.
The first 2 periods were boring. Blanc always made his lessons exciting.
Recess came quickly though.
I took a perch under a big willow tree and pulled out my lunch box.
"Hi there!" A voice called from above me. I looked up and saw a boy with greenish-blue hair. He looked kinda familiar... but I couldn't put my finger on it.
"Uh... hey?" I called back, an apple in my hand. He jumped down from the tree and grinned at me, a bandaid stuck to his cheek.
"Malakai Hills!" He stuck out his hand and continued grinning. I smiled weakly and shook it.
"Violetta Lace." I said quietly. He sat down next to me.
"That's a very pretty name!" He looked at my half arm and touched the scar.
"H-hey!" I screeched, pulling it away.
"Sorry!" He apologised, scratching the back of his head, "how old are you? Cause I'm 11!"
"I'm 10... turning 11 next year." I said grimly.
"You live in the House of Blood, Sweat and Tears... don't you?" He whispered.
"House of Blood, Sweat and Tears?" I questioned.
"Yeah... the big house at the very back of town. Girlish screams are always coming from it." He giggled.
"Oh... yeah... that's my house... who gave it the nickname?!"
"Toby Orang." He said, pointing at a a tall boy with fiery hair and a gap tooth.
"Well. I prefer the Owl's Castle." I stuck my nose in the air and giggled.
"Why the Owl's Castle?" He asked curiously.
"Because of the big silver barn owl that lives there." I laughed, taking a chomp out of the apple and grinning.
"Kinda like that one?" He pointed upwards at An owl, perched in the tree.
"Lilas?!" I screeched, Lilas hooted happily and flew down, landing on my shoulder.
"Woah!" Malakai stared at Lilas in awe. The bird struck a sassy pose and hooted.
"Stupid Owl." I scoffed.
The bell rung and I stood up, trotting towards the classroom.
