You don't know
You don't know faith
Until there is only one way
The only one you need
Where there is no choice
But to pray, to believe that you will get that one thing
Because if you don't, everything shatters.
You don't know fear
Until you've stared death in the face
And begged him, not to spare you
But to end it, to end the hurt
Then he turns a deaf ear to your plea.
You don't know loss
Until that one thing
That's kept you going
Your only hope, what you live for
Is taken away from your pleading eyes
And thrown under someone's bus.
You don't know pain
Until you've bled inside
Swam in the red of your tainted blood
Drowned internally
And it became your daily reality.
You don't know people
Until they choke you with insults
Belittle your dreams
Step on your heart, crush it
Contaminate your soul with hate
And do it over and over again.
You don't know life
Until you see a cold dead body
Discover it's yours, another lost soul
Who never really lived, you ask yourself
"I know I have done wrong
But how much more could I take?"
You don't know me
Until my life's work is all I've left behind
Even then, too many will never know
The girl who looked in the mirror
Saw fear, loss, pain, was hurt by people and life
Her faith failed, what happiness she found
Was snatched from her grip.
