"That moment between Netflix episodes when you see your reflection and wonder what you're doing with your life."

"Have you been there all night?" My mom asks as she walks into the living room.

"Yep." I say, not moving.

"It's almost 7 a.m." She says checking the time and going into the kitchen.

"I know."

"Daisy, you stayed up to watch movies all night and act like its no big deal. Our first day is today!" My mom says, angrily.

"But you don't need me today. I wasn't even planning on going."

"Well guess what? You're going." My mom says and angrily walks past me.

"Mom," I whine, "all you're doing today is interviewing people for staff and Mr. Ricci's gonna help, I'm not even doing anything!"

"You're still going. Be ready in 10!" She says from another room. I groan internally and leave to get ready.

"Does me being 18 not mean anything!" I sigh out loud.

"Oh it does honey, just not right now." My mom says walking back into the living room. She's smiles at me but it's a sarcastic mom smile so I walk to my room to get changed.

"So you're going to have this attitude the whole time?" My mom asks me, while we drive to Mr. Ricci's house. Since I can't say what I'm thinking without having to walk home, I just look at my mom and look back out the window.

"Fine, be angry." She says and turns on the radio. I swear she acts like a child sometimes. When we finally get to the house, Mr. Ricci opens the door. He looks more casual today, the first three buttons of his shirt are undone and his navy blue suit jacket is open.

"I didn't expect you to be here for interviews. Will you be sitting in with us?" Mr. Ricci says to me as we walk to his office.

"I didn't expect to be here either." I mumble.

"No, she's not sitting in I just brought her along. Are we doing the interviews in here or?" My mom says, changing the subject.

"I thought we'd do them outside, it's a lovely day and my assistant can get a table set up." He says smiling.

"That would be great!" My mom says and walks into his office.

"You know I don't think anyone's here on Saturdays. Not even Mable, the maid, gets here until 12. You can watch the TV if you'd like." He says and walks me into a big TV room with a black leather couch and a flat screen bigger than our car. It has white fluffy carpert, a mini fridge, and a pool table. I stand there with my jaw dropped, I could only ever dream of having this room, I don't think this house could get any better.

"Wow, I think I'll be just fine in here." I tell him and he smiles.

"Well your mother and I will be outside!" He walks away and I sit back on the leather couch. Since I'm awkward, especially in new situations, I decide to just get on my phone.

"You weren't at my party were you?" A deep voice says from behind me, frightening me. When I turn around I see the boy who interrupted my mom's interview, his son. He's really attractive, he looks like someone who was that "typical, popular heartbreaker" in high school, at least the ones in the movies. He has on a t-shirt and shorts, he looks like he just woke up. He runs his hands through his hair and rubs his eyes.

"Me? No I uh-" I start.

"Oh I see you guys have met! Jacob have you introduced yourself?" Mr. Ricci says when he walks in.

"No I haven't, because if I see a stranger in my house my first instinct isn't to introduce myself." Mr. Ricci shakes his head and ignores what Jacob said.

"This is Angela's daughter, the gardener." Mr. Ricci had to clarify who Angela was after seeing the confused look on his son's face. "Well I have to go back out there, I only came for this." He holds up a stack of papers.
"Well have fun." Jacob says to his dad.

"Be nice!" Mr. Ricci shouts, walking away.

"I'd rather not." Jacob shouts back and sits on the opposite side of the couch and gets on his phone.

"Hi, I'm Daisy." I say after thinking about how to intoduce myself for 20 minutes.

"Well that was expected. Can you get me water bottle out of that fridge." He chuckled, never looking up from his phone once. Either I'm boring or whatever he's doing is very important. I hand him the water bottle and sit back down awkwardly.

"So how old are you?" I ask trying to get a conversation going. It was clear Mr. Ricci wanted us to introduce ourselves so why not try.

"20." He answers shortly.

"So, um-"

"Look sweetheart, I'm hungover, my head is pounding, and I really don't feel like playing 20 questions right now." He says making me stop talking.

"Why don't you just take an aspirin?" I ask after a couple minutes of silence.

"What?" He asks clearly irritated.

"Well in the movies I watch, when someone has a hangover they take an aspirin." I tell him trying to help the situation.

"Wow, thank you. If it wasn't for you I may have never known how to deal with this." He says sarcastically and stands up.

"I was just trying to help."

"If my dad asks where I'm at tell him I'm working." He walks out the room.

After sitting on my phone for an hour I decide to get up and look around. I find a stack of movies and see Aladdin. I decide to put it in and watch it since I haven't seen it in a long time.

When the movie is half way through I end up falling asleep. The sound of my mothers voice wakes me up.

"We're done!" My mom says excitedly.

"Did you find anyone?" I ask.

"Definitely. Ready to go?"

"Yeah just let me turn this off." I grab the remote and struggle to figure out how to turn it off.

"Where's Jacob?" Mr. Ricci asks me.

"He said to tell you he's working." Mr. Ricci makes a disapproving face.

"Is that Aladdin?" My mom asks me.

"Yeah I saw it so I turned it on."

"You can keep it if you want, no one here watches it anymore." Mr. Ricci says and turns the TV off.

"Thank you!" I jump up and down internally. We say our goodbyes to Mr. Ricci and begin to head to our car. I think my mom notices I'm feeling better but doesn't say anything until we get into the car.

"I see you're in a better mood."

"I guess." I say.

"Wanna help me cook?" She says smiling at me.

"Are you really gonna use this to your advantage?" I say laughing.

"Of course." She says and starts the car.

"Fine!" I drag out and we head home.
