Twenty-Five

After Dani recovered from her sudden attack, she went to the nurse's office and went home for the rest of the day. I wanted to see her after school but dad picked me up. I wanted to tell them that I wanted to visit Dani because she went home early but he didn't allow me. He says I was grounded for two weeks. He has been extra careful with me for the past couple of days.

He would pick me up from school and would always take me to school. He would prevent me from leaving the house and he would occasionally walk into my room to check on me. Dani was right on the night of Halloween; he would be parent stalking me. Dani didn't even go to school the next day and again, I wasn't allowed to visit her. I try to call her but instead her dad would pick up telling me that Dani is asleep.

On the weekend, I begged dad to let me go see Dani. I even told him he could take me there and wait for me outside if he wanted. But he said he couldn't because he had work to do. I even suggested if Lily could take me but he said I wasn't allowed. I was grounded. He said I would only have to wait and see Dani when school starts again.

I have been thinking over and over again whether Dani could be Eve. All the time she has been telling me about her weird dreams, when she starts to have an eye attack and when Annabeth took her away. It all clicked and I couldn't believe that I didn't see it earlier. I can't believe it took me this long to figure it out that Dani could be a Night Watcher.

Her mother died when she was born so perhaps her mother died before giving birth to her. It all works. Especially when Annabeth said that I can't find something that hasn't been lost. Dani was with me the whole time; she was never lost. I knew exactly where she was. It's harder to deny that Dani is anything but Eve.

I start to think about when Draven helped and went by Dani's side when Annabeth disappeared. Was he there to save me or was he there to save Dani? If Dani, could that mean he was actually there to save Eve? The girl that he was ordered to protect and make sure that I would find. The girl that could be the last key to saving the world.

To be honest, I couldn't tell. I don't know what to think anymore. Everything makes sense but at the same time it doesn't. None of this seems real to me. But yet, it might not be Dani and I am focusing on the wrong girl.

"Have you spoken to Dani yet?" Isaac asks.

We were in the empty gymnasium, sitting on the benches. It's Wednesday and Dani still hasn't come to school yet. Something has happened to her and I'm starting to worry about her. I haven't been in contact with her for almost seven days. But when I call her, her dad reassures me that she is fine. Sometimes, if I do get her on the phone, she sounds sick and tired. She says that she will call me later, but I never got a call from her.

I sigh, "No, not yet," I mutter. "Right now, let's just concentrate on your training."

Isaac nods. As I'm grounded, the only time I can help Isaac train is during our lunch breaks. I haven't trained Lucan yet, but Jaxon has. Jaxon has been trained by everyone else and so has Melissa. Right now, my main focus is on Isaac. He still hasn't managed to use his ability to read people's mind. It's difficult to do that when we don't really have someone to use as practice.

At the meantime, Isaac is trying to read mine. If he is right, that he would not be able to use his powers on me then it wouldn't work. But if I can hear them from distance, if Melissa can teleport with us and if Jaxon can track us, surely Isaac would be able to read our minds.

Isaac has been trying multiple different methods to use on us. He tries to wipe his hand across our face, but it didn't work. He tried to hold his hand in front of our face but yet it didn't work. Now, after multiple attempts, he places two fingers on my forehead and closes his eyes. I try to concentrate on a simple thought, hoping that it would work.
