"SO HAS ELIJAH REALLY left again?" Kendall frowned as she ate ice-cream out of the tub. "Or is this some stupid attempt to win you back?"
"You're getting married in two days," I scoffed. "Is Elijah really what you should be worrying about?"
"Hey, I'm pregnant now," she narrowed her eyes at me. "Vince can do the rest of the worrying."
"Nice," I rolled my eyes. I didn't dare say anything, but I was very worried that Elijah was already in another country.
It had been a week and five days sine Elijah and I had had our argument. Since then, I'd been to two more of Kendall's dress fittings, several cake tastings, five of which had been on the same day and pulled an all nighter putting together the stupid table ornaments.
I'd spent countless hours at the venue, sweating and setting it all up and I mean, at this point I was more invested in this wedding than the bride and groom were.
I took a deep breath and Kendall did too.
"You're allowed to care you know," she told me. "You can be sad that he's gone again without having to admit that you have feelings for him."
"He's not gone," I tried. "He'll be back to annoy me soon."
She frowned, then held a spoonful of ice-cream out to me. I took it and thanked her before shoving it in my mouth and sighing.
"I shouldn't have been so mean to him," I admitted. "He was trying and I refused to give him a chance."
"Well tell him that," she ordered me. "Call him and tell him."
"I will," I nodded and pulled my phone out of my pocket. I punched in his new number and just before I started the call, I looked up at her again. "This doesn't mean that I like him again."
"Of course," she agreed and ushered for me to call. I held the phone to my ear and waited. One ring, two rings, three rings, four. I waited patiently and then I heard the click signalling that he'd picked up.
"Hello?" I heard him mutter. At the sound of his voice, my throat closed up and I'd forgotten how to breath. "Devon? Is that you?"
"Y-Yes," I stammered. "It's me, your good pal Dev."
"What do you want?" He asked and I didn't miss the iciness in his voice.
"I would like to cordially apologise for being an asshole," I said robotically and Kendall rose a questioning eyebrow at me. "Oops, I only put five cents in the pay phone. Gotta blast."
I hung the phone up and threw it onto the table.
"What the hell was that?" She demanded.
"I don't know," I breathed.
"Gotta blast?" She asked. "You have never said that before."
"I know!" I cried. "What is wrong with me?!"
My phone started buzzing and we both looked at it in shock. Before I could stop her, Kendall answered and put it on loud speaker.
"Pay phones don't exist anymore!" Elijah yelled and Kendall had to cover her mouth to stop herself from laughing. I didn't have the chance to say another dumb thing before Elijah hung up and Kendall started screaming with laughter.
"Pay phones don't exist anymore!" She squealed. "He's so dumb."
"Did I just hurt his feelings even more?" I asked in disbelief. Kendall settled down a little bit and then took the spoon off of me again.
