"Michael, are you even listening?" His Math teacher sighed.

"Nope." Michael bluntly said, smiling sarcastically at her. The people around him laughed a bit, and one guy had the nerve to yell out.

"He was probably thinking about Luke Hemmings." Michael froze then.

He actually was thinking about Luke.

Again.

"And you were thinking about Stacy's love life, Jack," Michael sassed, narrowly dodging the bullet. Luke didn't buy it, though - something changed in Michael's face when Jack yelled out. He wanted to find out.

"I wouldn't be surprised." Luke mused.

"Quiet, all three of you." Mrs. Randal said, continuing on with the lesson neither Luke nor Michael were paying any attention to - Michael was too busy thinking of Luke, and Luke was too busy thinking of Michael's narrow escape.

"Michael?"

Michael turned his head, seeing Ashton walking up to him.

"Hey, what's wrong?" Michael asked, knowing Ashton doesn't meet him alone, unless something's wrong, or he has a personal question to ask Michael.

"In Math today," Ashton started quietly, once he was within earshot. "you paused when Jack said you were thinking about Luke. You normally never pause unless it's true, so why'd you pause?"

Shit, Michael thought. He sighed in defeat and ran his fingers through his hair instinctively. Ashton raised his eyebrows and smiled.

"I knew it, Calum owes me twenty bucks now," Ashton jeered.

"What - what?" Michael was confused. They bet on him? Why?

"Calum said that you wouldn't think of Luke when you're in your own mind, and I bet against him, so I won."

"Okay, can we talk about this after school? Just us three?"

"Yeah, yeah - wait..." Ashton started to say something, but Michael was already walking towards the Gym, where he, Luke, and Calum had their next class.

Unfortunately, Ashton was much more athletic than he was, and caught up with him. His class was on the way to the gym anyways.

"You're not saying that you have --"

"That is exactly what I'm saying, Ashton."

"Oh. Well, this is gonna be an awkward night."

And with that, the two headed off to their separate classes.

Heat.

That's all that Michael felt at the moment - heat.

And a sharp pain in his lower rib cage, ankle, lungs, and right shin, but that wasn't a big deal to the coach.

Meanwhile, Luke was struggling along right next to him. He didn't have the worst performance in the class, (that title belonged to Michael) but he definitely didn't have the best, either.

Luke noticed that Michael was struggling to breathe properly, and became concerned. Michael's asthma was a serious and severe case, even worse because of his small frame and low exercising.

"Michael, you alright?" Luke asked, and when Michael barely shook his head negatively, Luke knew something was wrong.

Michael normally bears through it - how he does it, Luke doesn't know. But he always uses his inhaler afterwards.
