Chapter Five
"Alec you need to give us a ride," Annie orders.
"And why would I need to do that for?" He says, not taking his eyes off of his game.
"We'll buy you some pizza," I bribe, knowing that's the only way to get him to stop playing his games.
He glances at me before saying, "Two large pepperoni's and it's a deal."
"Deal," I say.
Alec grins and turns his xbox off. "Let's go then, ladies."
He picks up a jacket on his messy bed and puts it on.
We exit his house, which was only a few houses down from mine by the way, and into his car.
"Vanessa," I hear Annie say.
"Yeah?"
"I think you should sit in the passenger seat."
"Why?" I looked at her strangely.
"Just do it." She throws me a glare and sits in the back.
Okay then?
I sit down in the passenger seat like she instructed me to. It was weird because she never sits in the back.
Alec turns on some music and starts driving.
"So where am I heading to?" He asks me.
He's not attacking me with words, and at the moment I'm kind of freaked out. Annie and Alec are acting weird and I'm not sure if I like it or not.
"This street right here," I reply and show him the text I got from Raine that told me the address.
His eyes hardened and he grips the steering wheel.
"Why are you going there again?" He asks kind of roughly.
"That's none of your business," Annie says.
I let out an exasperated breath. "For a sleepover, I told you already."
"Why, Alec? Do you know that address already?" Annie asks with her arms crossed.
Again, that spark of jealously went through me again. Alec obviously had a thing for Raine. I knew it from the first day of school when he flirted with her. Maybe that's why he knew the address.
"I told you to stay away from him Vanessa," Alec says to me, avoiding Annie's question.
"What are you even talking about? Raine is not a guy."
"Raine?"
"Yes, that's who I'm sleeping over with."
"Impossible." He sounded like he was talking to himself rather than me. "Maybe he moved or something."
"What the hell are you even talking about?" Annie says and narrowed his eyes on Alec.
"Nothing," He says gruffly. "We're here."
That was quick.
We pulled up to a nice house. It was kind of big but it was pretty.
I see Raine on the front porch. She waves to us. I wave back.
A couple of Annie's friends were already there and they excitedly ran over to the car.
Being Annie, she hands them the bags she had and they carry it to the house.
Before I leave, I ask Alec, "How did you know where this was?"
He shook his head. "Just know somebody who lives here. I had no idea Raine lived here though."
"Oh okay." I reach for my bag in the back.
"Here, I'll get that for you," He says and reaches for it.
"Uh thanks," I say, not sure why he's being so nice.
He gets out of the car carrying my bags and we walk to the house in silence.
When we get to the porch, he hands me my bags.
"Vanessa?" Alec says.
"Yeah?"
He eyes the top window warily and I could've sworn I saw a shadow move.
He scoffs for some reason and I saw nothing but hatred in his eyes.
"Be careful, okay?" He says lowly, as if somebody would hear us.
My eyes widened a bit as he walks back to his car.
But this was Raine's house though. Nobody was going to hurt us.
Right?
