Chapter Ten
The last period bell rings and people sprung out of their seat and out of class.
I took the time to gather up my things because I was talking to Raine.
"Do you want to go to the All Time Low concert with me?" She asks. "I made Jace buy us tickets and he 'accidentally' bought three tickets instead of two."
"How did he accidentally buy three?" I asked.
She shrugs and gives me a sly smile. "I don't know. He told me to invite you, saying it was by accident and that you could come along."
"Oh?"
She wiggles her eyebrows at me. "It seems like my step brother has a crush on you."
My eyes widened. Me? No way.
I scoffed, "I wish."
Her brows raised in slight surprised. She then smirks at me. "You wish, eh?"
"Yeah," I shrugged. "He's good-looking and all but I don't think he would go for a girl like me. Remember, I don't even have a power."
There was a feeling inside me that actually believed he had some sort of interest in me. But I thought, nah. He was just being nice. He wouldn't like me because I'm a freak.
Raine gives me a look. "I'm pretty sure Jace isn't a judgmental piece of shit like everybody else in this school is. He likes you. You're pretty hot, if I say so myself."
I rolled my eyes. Yeah, okay.
"Don't roll your eyes at me!" She says in a stern-mother tone. "Brother or not, I approve of this relationship! And if he hurts you, I'll kick his ass myself."
I grinned and let the nagging feeling in me go. Maybe she was right. Raine was his sister anyway. And I mean c'mon on, who buys a third ticket by accident and then proceeds to ask his sister if a girl he doesn't even know wanted to go?
"Okay," I gave in. We made our way out of the door. "I guess I can give him a go."
"That's my girl," She lightly punches me in the arm. "So you're coming with us?"
"Sure, why not? As long as you don't invite my sister again," I joked.
"Oh trust me," She replies. "I've learned my lesson already."
"Good," I laugh and start heading to my locker.
"I have to catch up with my lesson for my chemistry class so I'll see you later," She says. "My chemistry teacher in my old school couldn't teach for shit."
"That sucks," I say. "I'll see you later though."
"Bye," She smiles and walks the opposite direction.
I smiled happily as I make my way down the hall and toward my locker. I opened it and grabbed the books I needed for homework.
I took my phone out from my pocket and I saw a text message. It was from Annie.
Annie: "I have cheerleading prac. & Alec has detention & then football prac. So either u wait for us to drive u or u walk home. Ur choice."
I sighed at the text. She cares about me so much.
"What's with the sigh?" I heard a voice come from beside me.
I jumped in surprise and accidentally knocked down a book that was hanging out of my locker.
I turned to look at the person and it was none other than Jace himself.
He was smiling sheepishly at me. "Sorry I didn't mean to startle you."
