Chapter Four

"Give me therapy, I'm a walking travesty. But I'm smiling at everything," Alex Gaskarth's singing filled the silence of the car as we drove to the school.

Annie groans. "Oh my god Alec. Can you please shut that horrible music off please?"

Alec grips the steering wheel tightly and I could tell he was refraining to glare at Annie.

"You think your music is any better, you A-class bitch?" Alec replies and I almost snickered.

Annie gapes at him before she turns a bright red.

"You know what Alec Brown?" She screeches loudly. "Fuck you! I don't even want to be with you anymore."

Alec abruptly hits the breaks and I keep myself from flying forward.

"Get out then," He says.

"What?" She replies back dumbly.

"Get out of my car," He says through gritted teeth. "Before I make you."

"How am I supposed to get to school then?!"

"You can walk like any other bitch out there."

"I fucking hate you Alec!" She screeches again and gets out of the car, making sure to slam the door.

"She's such a fucking drama queen, I swear to god," Alec mutters to himself before he starts to drive again.

I watch as Annie buries her hand in her purse to look for something, probably her phone.

I knew that Alec disliked her but I didn't know he would actually snap at her like that. Now that I think about it, Alec has been really moody this morning.

So I'm actually going to be smart and NOT talk to him or else the same thing might happen to me like it did to Annie.

I think it only happened because Annie had insulted his music. He gets really defensive when it comes to his favorite band and luckily, I actually like the music he listens to.

He was still angry, I knew it. He was gripping his steering wheel tightly and I really wanted to calm him down like I used to. But we really weren't close anymore.

After a couple of minutes, he seemed to relax.

"Hey," I hear him say.

I wasn't sure if he was talking to me. Maybe he was talking to somebody on his phone?

I don't reply yet. Just so I don't end up making a fool about myself.

"Hello?" He says again. "Vanessa?"

Crap, he was talking to me. I mentally prepared myself for another one of his attacks.

"Uh, yeah?" I say awkwardly.

I thought he was going to insult me for not replying to him the first time but instead, he totally surprised me.

"Why were you sitting with Jason Nixon yesterday?"

Why did he care? "There were no other seats available," I lied. Actually, there were plenty of seats but nobody wanted me to sit with them. Plus "Jason", since that's what Alec says his name was, looked alone and he probably didn't know who I was.

Alec grips his steering wheel. "Don't sit near him anymore."

I furrowed my eyebrows. "Why not?"

"He's not good to be around."

I rolled my eyes. Why is he pretending to care now?

"I didn't even talk to him, Brown."

"Yes you did, Vanessa. I saw you." He says, "Just stay away from him."
