Chapter two
I sighed and stared at myself in the mirror.
The chocolate I ate earlier, which looked like poo, was now off of my cheek and all I wanted to do was smash my face against the mirror.
Gosh, I just embarrassed myself in front of everyone, especially him.
Now, I'm probably known as the "girl with poo on her face who sat with a guy who can possibly kill her."
Why? Why me? Can't I have some good things in life too?
The warning bell rang and I groaned loudly. I left my bag in the café so I had to get it now. I'm probably going to be late to class again.
Quickly, I walked to the café, only to find that my bag wasn't there. Though, there was an empty tray on the table (I don't know why he didn't throw it away) and I felt a little bit happier that he ate it.
But still, my bag!
He doesn't seem like the type to go and do good deeds but I don't just want to assume that he stole it. I mean, there's nothing really to steal anyway. I literally have nothing in that bag but some textbooks and pencils. I'll just ask for it back tomorrow or whenever I see him.
The bell rings again and now, I really was late for class.
I sighed and took my time walking to my art class. It's not like the teacher minds me being late. He's actually pretty nice about it. It's just the looks I get for coming in late.
I went inside and just as how I predicted, everybody was looking at me.
I sat down at my table, which was empty by the way, and looked around the classroom.
Art class was particularly big. It was mainly filled with people who can't draw but were forced to take this class and people who have a power that is somewhat in the field of art.
Almost 98% of the world has a power. The other 2% are either still trying to unlock it or were born with none.
I am part of that unfortunate 2%, which is the reason why I'm basically a stray inside school. Most teenagers find their power when they're like 13 or 14 years old. Most powers were heretitated from their parents, but some were completely random despite their family tree.
I quickly sketch something on my piece of paper. Drawing was the only thing I was good at. Even so, other people were much better than me. As I've mentioned before, art class has a bunch of people whose power was related to art. Like this girl has the power to draw anything and it would come to life.
Art was soon over and I made my way to Spanish. My textbook and binder were in the bag I left in the cafe. I was a good student so the teacher wouldn't mind if I forget it for one day.
I sat down on my seat when I arrived. People scurried inside.
"Okay, clase," The spanish teacher says, "Abran tus libros a página cien."
"What is cien again?" A guy had the nerve to ask.
The teacher glared at the student and he smiled sheepishly.
"It's page 100, you idiot," Some other guy said. "I bet even Vanessa knew that and she doesn't even have a power."
I rolled my eyes and turned to glare at the guy.
Of course, it was the one and only Alec Brown. He was also my used-to-be best friend and childhood friend. And I still have a crush on him right now.
Alec smirks at me.
I don't get why he picks on me. He used to protect me because I was bullied but now he's become the bully.
"Wait, don't tell me you didn't know that?" Alec says tauntingly.
"You better shut up, Brown," I say harshly. "I knew what it meant."
"You better watch who you're talking to," He threatens.
"Whatever," I muttered and looked away. I'd like to think that his threats weren't real and that he still cared about me but I really don't know who he is anymore.
"Calmarse ahora," The teacher says. "I want you all to do preguntas 1-10 now."
"Uh Senora?" I raise my hand.
"Yes, Vanessa?"
"May I borrow a book? I forgot mine at home," I smootly lied.
"You may," She says and points at the table where the extra book is at.
I get up and go get the book. It was under a huge stack of books and being the clumsy self I am, I ended up making a couple of books fall.
They didn't reach the ground though.
In a flash, somebody had already caught them. It was Alec again, showing off his super speed. He was one of those rare people who had a different power from his family. It was annoying because that was one of the reasons why he got popular.
"Better be careful there," He smirks at me and reorganizes the books. "You don't want to hurt yourself, seeing as you have no powers."
I gritted my teeth in anger and muttered a thanks.
I hear some people chuckle and I really wanted to smack him in the head with this book.
I sighed and sat down in my seat. I opened my book to page 100 and started doing the questions.
There was a knock on the door and the guidance counselor came in with a brunette following behind.
"Hello, hello," She said. I had no idea why she says hello twice. It gets really annoying. "This is Raine. She's a new student."
The Spanish teacher smiles at her, "Hola Raine."
"Uh, hola," She says back.
"I'll just leave her to you," The guidance counselor says and walks out.
"I'll have you take a seat right over there between Alec and Vanessa," She points.
"Okay then," She says and takes the seat next to me.
"Vanessa is using an extra book, but that can be yours once she finished using it. Right now, you can share it with her."
Raine smiles at me. That smile is going to disappear once she figures out what a freak I am for having no powers.
Alec scoffs. "Why would she want to share with somebody who has no powers? If I were Raine, I would share it with none other than me," He says flirtatiously.
Raine was really pretty. Of course Alec would flirt with her.
A spark of jealousy and sadness ran through me and for some reason, I see Raine flinch.
Her eyes turned toward me once again.
Great, she now knows that I am a freak.
She turns to Alec and gives him a sickly sweet smile. "Sorry, I don't think I want to share a textbook with you. You sound too much of a douchebag."
Some people in the class oo's and Alec's eyes widened a bit in surprise.
In one move, she pushes her desk toward mine and places the book that was on my desk in the middle.
"Hi," She says friendly in a friendly tone.
"Hi," I reply back, still a bit shocked that she just did that.
"So we're just doing the first 10 questions here?" She asks.
"Um, yeah," I say and she took out a piece of paper. Shame, I didn't have anything with me because the guy still had my bag.
She noticed and offered me a piece of paper and a pencil. I accepted it.
She even started talking to me after we finished. She asked about what classes I had and how I was liking them.
It made me feel happier that I was starting to make a new friend.
But deep down inside me, I knew that it wouldn't last because everybody else gave up on me in the end.
