"What the-"

"Don't worry, that's just Dr. Gonzalez," Barty says quickly, reassuring the man who I assume is Alex's husband.

"Right, magic. I'm still getting used to that."

"You must be Jared?" I ask, sitting in the chair opposite him.

"Yes. And you're Dr. Gonzalez."

"Please, call me Bizzy."

"Right, Bizzy. Alex talks about you all the time."

"Does he?"

"He admires your work. And you. He likes you a lot- professionally I mean."

"That's- well he's one of my best interns. Did Barty explain everything?"

"Yes. But I'm still confused."

"Confused about?"

"Why Alex didn't tell me about magic before. I had to find out about it after he nearly got killed," he sighs, looking down at his husband.

"There are certain rules about be can know what and when. My magic identity can't be known in the non-magic world, other than my employees and the president. I do a lot of work in both areas, so sometimes the magic has to be hidden. If I had known Alex was married I would have allowed him to tell you, but it seems I'm not the most attentive boss, which is going to change. I'm probably talking too much- am I talking too much?"

"Slightly," Barty says, "but I think he gets the point."

"Yes, I do. So, you said he's going to be okay? What about his brain, they said he hit his head? Could there be damage?"

"There was a bleed," Barty starts, "But they did brain surgery, and everything seems to be fine. Most of the doctors here are witches and wizards, and they did some tests, and all of the brain activity looks fine."

"So he should wake up soon?"

"That's what we're hoping for."

"We're supposed to meet with the adoption agency in two days. I can't imagine they'll give us a kid if he's brain damaged, or-"

"He'll be okay. And if you need someone to put a good word in with you, Bizzy's a great reference, especially if you chose to adopt a magical child, which isn't a scary as it seems."

"Barty, you are quite the salesman today," I mutter, shifting awkwardly in my seat.

"Well, it's true. You work a lot with the magic adoption agencies and the foster system."

"Yes, I do- I-"I'm cut off by my phone. I glance at it, seeing that it's Jack. I frown, "Sorry, I really need to-"

"I understand."

"I can answer any more questions," Barty adds.

"Right. I'll try to come back later." I step out of the room, answering the call, "What do you need? I told you was going to the hospital."

"Well, you didn't actually tell me. You might have told Jack, but I stole his, his phone? Is that what this is? It doesn't look like the phones my dad has."

"Bill? I- you stole his phone?"

"Yeah it was just sitting on the table, and it actually had your information up, like he was about to call you, but he left. So I took it, and called you."

"Okay, well, did you want to talk about something?" I ask nervously.

"I mean, a lot happened today. So it would be nice to talk about it. Although maybe not over this device. It seems rather impersonal."
