Eridan sighed as he made his way home from school. He'd gotten beat up again and hadn't wanted to ride the bus. He wiped some blood off his cheek with his scarf, sniffing. The mid autumn air stung his sore nose and he was pretty sure was making him sick.
There was a loud clatter from the alleyway beside him and he froze. Faintly he heard a strangled mewling sound that made him frown.
Setting his backpack against the wall, he stepped into the alleyway. "Hello?" He called.
There was another crash and he jumped as an empty can fell out of the dumpster and hit his foot. He frowned and picked it up. It was a still warm can of soup. There was some broth at the bottom. He looked back at the dumpster and blinked when he saw two tails sticking up from the garbage. He quietly approached the trash, the smell stinging his nose.
The creature looked up in alarm as Eridan came closer and the human saw it was one of the troll pets. It was small- or maybe just malnourished?- and covered in bruises and cuts.
"Hey there little guy. Lookin' for this?" He held up the can. The troll made a raspy sound that vaguely sounded like "yeah". Eridan handed him the can and he took it in his paws. He could see they were shaking and his teeth were chattering.
Eridan gently reached out and picked up the little troll, who squeaked in alarm. Eridan could feel his ribs under the ratty shirt he wore and he held the shivering troll to his chest as he gently unwound his scarf and wrapped it around the little guy. It looked up at him in wide eyed confusion, which worried Eridan as he took the troll home.
