Chapter 4

"You have to leave, Vince."

"Lauren, this wasn't a one night stand for me. We made love. I loved every minute of it, and I do not regret it. You were perfect. You are perfect," Vince said to me.

He looked so sad, yet annoyed that I would just order him to leave after the night of "love making" we had. He probably didn't even really like it. He probably just wants another quickie before he leaves.

"This is not like me, Vince!" I suddenly shouted. "People like you and me do not belong together. You're rich and you have everything in the world you want or need. You'll probably have another woman in line in the next day or two. Me? I just drown myself in my work so that I don't even have time to think about anything that should really matter in life."

Feeling frustrated and sad, I knew this was true. He didn't belong to me. He was too precious, too valuable.

As he stood there staring at me, without an expression on his face, I started getting impatient. "Well? Say something to me. Don't you agree with me?"

He lifted his foot and slowly made his way towards me. I took a few steps back to distance myself from him until I realized there was a wall behind me, and I couldn't step back anymore.

His eyes were looking into mine so intently. It was as if he was trying to read me. He lifted his hand and pushed a strand of hair out of my face. His fingers moved down my face brushing my cheek. "Lauren," he spoke. "Please don't push me away. I'm not what you think. I may have money, but I'm not great in the love department. I'm scared too. But just this once, take this leap with me. Trust me. I will not let you down. I don't know what it is quite yet, but I don't want you to leave my life. You came into my life just last night and I love everything I've found out about you. I like standing here just being in your presence. You gave tingles on my skin as you touched me last night. You excite me. It may be soon for me to say all of this, but I've never felt this before. Please."

I stood there taking it all in. Taking him all in. He was so handsome, so beautiful. He was breathtaking even when he had bed hair.

"Let's just start over as friends," he said.

"Sure," I said. "But no more sex."

"Hey, I'm fine with that. I'm glad we can continue to get to know each other. But who knows? One day you might just love me," he said while giving me a grin.

"Okay, Vince. I do have to get down to the restaurant. I have to check on some things. I'll see you later," I said.

He leaned over and gave me a quick peck on the cheek. "Later might be sooner than you think, love."

And just like that, he was gone.

"Ryan! What's going on here?!" I shouted.

"Miss Johnson, I'm glad you're here! Four waiters have called in sick and when we open later tonight, we will be so short handed of waiters. I would be happy to volunteer as a waiter for the night."

Ryan was the manager of my restaurant. He controlled things while I wasn't there. He was in charge of the reservations and making sure everything ran smoothly. He was excellent at making sure my customers were satisfied. He did an excellent job.

"Ryan, calm down. We will manage. You help wait some tables and so will I. It will be over before we know it," I assured him.

Of all the nights to get very busy, of course we'd get busy when we were short of help. I gave all of my tips to Ryan and the other waiters who had the decency to actually show up to work. Those others who didn't would definitely get a call from me later.

I helped them close up and thanked them all for being such troopers with our busy night. I locked the door and turned to find my car. Funny, next to my car, there was an expensive, yet familiar, Porsche parked in front of it.

"Hello Lauren," he said as he hopped out of his car.
