Two hands slapped hard against my cheeks, pushing them together, and I blinked out of my thoughts of my brave Pookie and into old crinkled brown eyes that were currently laughing at me.

"Mrs. Rose," I smiled at the thin, elderly woman. I reached up and grabbed her hands, lowering them from my slightly stinging cheeks.

Where do you keep going? she asked, using her hands. They moved in a flurry of movements. A strand of her soft white hair fell over her eyes and she quickly tucked it back into the bun she always wore. She had a way of making others see her as some frail. old woman who couldn't do anything herself but no one knew she broke her hip a couple years back because she was on a ladder with a chainsaw, trying to hack off branches from a tree in her yard.

Or that she kept coming back to the hospital for similar reasons, including today.

I flashed her my flirty grin, knowing she wouldn't fall for it. "I can't tell you that. I wouldn't want to hurt your delicate sensibilities.

She made a snorting noise. Delicate? Hun, I'm seventy-three years old. I've heard, seen, and done it all. If anything, I would be the one hurting your delicate sensibilities.

I laughed and shook my head. For such an old woman, she was such a hoot. As one of my favorite patients, I didn't mind opening up to her. I trusted her almost as much as I did Dr. Roberts.

"I met someone."

Oh, and when do I get to meet him?

"Him?" I spluttered, giving her wide eyes.

She laughed silently, tears filling her eyes. Well, for the longest time I thought you and Owen were an item but when he dated that blasted moneygrubber, I figured I was wrong. She shivered, remembering Tary. I shivered too. She was horrible. I was glad that only lasted about a month. I couldn't close the door fast enough on her butt.

"I'm very much straight, Mrs. Rose."

She patted my back. I know. I just like messing with you.

I nodded. She really did.

"Alright, well, you're as healthy as always today. The headache was because you hit your head when you climbed the ladder and hit the ceiling. You're fine and I have no doubt that ten years down the road, you'll still be as healthy as you are now."

She grinned at me, showing her teeth. I doubted her body even knew how to be ill.

My phone went off.

Better answer that. I know my way out. She got up from the chair and waved as she disappeared out of the room just as quickly as she came in. Sometimes, I wondered if she purposely came up with reasons to come into the hospital because she got lonely by herself. She was a strong independent person but everyone gets lonely if they are by themselves for too long.

"Dr. Green," I said.

"You're taking the GSW victim on its way in, be at the entrance in two. Your team is with her," Dr. Roberts said before hanging up. I frowned at my phone before sighing and going to the front of the hospital.

I was already aware of the mission to a certain degree. I didn't know much, just aware that an Academy member got herself into trouble and needed saving. Some bird went in and got her out and when they were safe, my brothers went in and took down the husband.
