If We Were A Metaphor

A quiet little pond

Never been disturbed

Lost in its own little quiet

Protected by a thicket

It sits and waits

But it doesn't really know

What it's waiting on

Or even why it is

A raging fire

That has never known

Peace or quiet

Always on the move

Destroying everything

In its path

It is chasing after something

But it doesn't really know

What it's after

The scorching fire

Meets the wall of thicket

It eats it up

Without an effort

Quickly breaking down the wall

And barreling like a train

Toward the pond

Fire meets water

And the sight is wonderful

The reaction

The pond hisses and tries

To push the fire away

But the fire is relentless

The fire is fueled by

An unearthly desire

To know the pond

And it's calm

And it's serenity

And it's peace

The fire knows

That's what the pond will give

The pond is afraid

But know it must save the fire

The pond wants to

Quell it's flames

Risk a part of itself

Hold it until it feels safe

It knows that is what the fire needs

And the pond realizes

It has been waiting

On the fire all along

To bring it life

And a little action

And the fire realizes

That it was chasing

The pond all along

Because it wanted

A place to stay
