The Disaster

You fall hard onto the pavement, skinning your knee though your ripped jeans. You sigh gently as you collect your book, which had fallen on the ground. You look around for your phone, hardly noticing the cause of your fall.

"I am so sorry!" A young British man proclaimed "Here, let me-"

"It's fine!" You snap, not bothering to look up, your good mood having turned sour in an instant "Where's my phone, damn it?!"

"Um, here, I-I'll help you find it." He looks around and begins to steer people around the path.

At that moment, a taxi zooms past, covering you and half the sidewalk in mud. You feel like crying, but you bite your lip "Fan-fricking-tastic." You sigh, trying hard not to swear "I'm miles away from my apartment, and I'll never get home without my damn GPS..."

"I'm so sorry!!" The man really began to freak out now "L-let me help, um, oh..." He gently picks up a mud-covered iPhone "W-would this happen to be yours...?" He hands it to you tenderly.

You look upon your poor phone in horror. The screen is cracked slightly, and it does't turn on. You forget about not swearing.

"I am so so sorry..." The man apologizes for the millionth time "Wh-why don't you come to my apartment, I promise I'll pay for that... I'll get you some new clothes too... It's not far at all!"

You're shocked by this man's offer, and don't seem to have any other choice. You look up at him for the first time, and nearly fall over again. The man you've been talking to this whole time is none other than Dan Howell, the YouTuber you've practically worshipped for the past seven years of your life.

You're instantly filled with regret and frustration towards yourself. You were just incredibly rude to your most aspiring role model! "Oh, um, th-that's alright..." You feel the need to kick yourself. What were you thinking, turning down an offer like that!

"No, no, I-I insist. I'm so sorry about your phone, I don't think I could live if that happened to mine. I'll buy you a new one." He lifts out a hand to help you up.

You stare at it blankly for a moment before reaching out to it. You can hardly believe that you're actually meeting him. Your heart races and you look down at the sidewalk, then back up to him. You realize that when you reached out to him, you missed his hand by about a foot. You quickly correct yourself and he pulls you up, but not without a questioning look.

"S-sorry..." you cringe.

"What are you apologizing for?! I was the one who tripped you! I'm sorry again, I was on my phone, I wasn't paying attention." On the subject of phones, he appeared to shudder "Sorry about... um, yours..."

"It's okay, it's really okay!" Your heart is beating out of control "I, um, wasn't looking where I was going either."

"Oh." He looked around "Here, I'll get you to my apartment. I'm not sure if my roommate is home..."

"Okay..." You felt awkward agreeing to go to his house, but you didn't want to miss this change.

You couldn't get over the fact that he was right there. You had only ever seen him on screens, and now here he was, less than a foot away from me. You had touched him. You almost fell over again.

"Woah!" He grabs you gently by the arm and pulls you upward "Jeez, you must've fallen pretty hard the first time..." He helps you across the street and into his apartment.
