April's POV:
"Hey!" Jackson said cheerily as he came into the residents lounge.
"Why are you happy, no one here is ever happy except Kepner and even she is losing her touch" Cristina said and I shot her a look and said
"Jackson had a date last night." I said
Alex laughed really loudly and said "aw who did pretty boy finally decide was good enough" he mocked
"None of your business." Jackson said
"My sister" Meredith said
"Ha you and little grey, brilliant, careful Mer he might corrupt her"
"Okay shut it Karev."
"I think it's cute" I said
"Thank you April" Jackson said sweetly. Then all of our pagers went off.
"Crap." Alex said
"What we get paged 911 all the time" I said as we started running towards the pit
"Yeah but think about it Apes, I'm on peds"
"Crap" I said
We got to the pit and Owen started to talk.
"I need everyone, school shooting, first ambulance is five minutes out they predict about 26 casualties"
"Shooting" Meredith said
"Yep" Cristina said
"Oh GOD!" I cried
"Hey, all of you stop, we got past it, and now we're gonna get these kids past it." Arizona said
"They're just kids" Alex said looking almost heartbroken
"OKAY PEOPLE LETS MOVE!" Hunt said as the first ambulance arrived

Jackson's POV:
"Hey" I said coming to sit next to April in the OR gallery "last surgery of the day" I said looking down at Teddy and Cristina in surgery
"Yeah." She said distantly
"I can't believe someone shot school children. Did they get the shooter"
"Yeah" she said again
"Good I hope he gets life"
"He could get death" she said
"As in death penalty???" I asked confused
"Nope" she said
"Then wha-"
"The shooter is the one down there Avery" Alex said from in front of us.
Slowly more people came in. Derek and Meredith, then Lexie and Arizona, Callie and Sloan, Hunt, Bailey and Ben and finally Webber. We all sat or stood there watching the surgery.
Teddy and Cristina saved him.
"26 casualties, zero fatalities. We saved a lot of lives today" Webber said
April and Lexie started to cry so I put an arm around each of them. Then Meredith and Derek started to laugh. Then Bailey. Then Callie. Soon enough we were all laughing uncontrollably. We had come through it.

April's POV:
After the outburst in the OR gallery we were all feeling better about the day. I walked round the corner and saw Jackson and Lexie together and felt a sharp pain in my chest. I dismissed it as I saw Alex coming towards me.
"You ready to go home Kepner" he said
"Yeah come on, Dr. Shepherd is waiting for us in the car" I replied not taking my eyes off of Jackson and Lexie.
"Hey Apes" Jackson shouted as we were about to leave. I turned to face him as he ran over
"Okay look I really wanna spend tonight with Lexie cuz she has tonight off but I don't and I was wondering if you could pretty please with a cherry on top cover all my rounds and post ops for the night" he practically begged
"But-"
"Pleeeassee I will give you all my surgeries for a month"
"No way, that's essentially lipos with a small chance of a facial reconstruction coming in"
"I will help you study for your boards"
"What do you think Arizona is for, she's an attending"
"I will do anything, I'll owe you for life, just please"
"Fine." I said reluctantly and he lifted me into a hug
"I love you you are the best!!" He said and then he ran back to Lexie
"Yeah I love you too" I mumbled to myself before waving Alex off and telling him I'll be fine here because Meredith and Cristina would be here all night for me to talk to.

Jackson's POV:
"It was sweet of April to cover your shift" Lexie said to me as we were sat on the couch watching a film.
"Yeah but she's my best friend, and I kinda did promise I'd owe her for life so it was an offer she couldn't refuse"
"Not sure why it means she has to know you. For life." She chuckled and I hit her playfully
"Hey!" I said and she giggled even more
"I'm kidding you know I love you" she laughed and then she froze. Neither of us had said that yet. She looked at me really awkwardly "forget I said that..." she said
"Damn" I said
"What?"
"I was sat here with 'I love you too' sat on the tip of my tongue and now I won't get to say it" I fake pouted and she laughed and kissed me
"I love you" she said
"I love you too" I whispered in her ear and then kissed her
