Georgia packed the last of the equipment into boxes as Nathaniel entered the hive on The Bund. The rest of the building lay empty after the news had broke of the joint suicides at the hand of Kree.
"Shame to move when we've just got here. It has to be the shortest business lease in the history of espionage. I don't see it myself. Landry is over reacting on this one." Nathaniel leant across Georgia's desk, trying to get her attention, blocking her way.
She ignored him, fastening one the buttons on her blouse as she navigated the desks. She could feel his gaze upon her arse as she bent to stack the laptops.
"I said, don't you think this is bullshit? You fancy eating the local food out in the sticks? I vote we stay here and keep the operation going. You and me. I can...mentor you, the way she does."
Georgia moved to the other side of the desk and took a data cube from a drawer and zipped it into a sports bag.
A courier walked in and she motioned towards the last stack of boxes. The courier put a trolley under them and wheeled them to the lift. Nathaniel listened for sound of the lift doors opening and closing once more.
"I don't have time for this Nathaniel. Orders are orders. If the boss wants us out of the city that's fine by me. Rank and file..."
Nathaniel came close her then and grabbed one of Georgia's wrists. She wondered at that moment what Landry would do in a situation like the one she had found herself in. She'd heard rumours of Landry's journey to the top and it hadn't been a sweet one, or an easy one. Landry had practically head-butted her way there.
"You're a little bitch. Landry's lapdog. Everyone can see you've got your tongue so far up her arse..."
He stopped mid-sentence as he felt the knife penetrate his gut. Georgia began to laugh as she unhooked Nathaniel's hand from her wrist, one finger at a time. His blood ran down his leg like he'd had his first period.
"You're the little bitch. I don't work for Landry. There's a new boss in town. It's a shame you'll never get to meet him. He's inspiring!"
Georgia twisted the blade, then gently slide it out, letting him go then. Nathaniel fell back on the floor in disbelief; his face forming a death mask as his life left him, shocked at his betrayal.
Georgia waited for Nathaniel to die, slung the sports bag over her shoulder and left the body alone to rot in the heat of a deserted office on The Bund.
Outside, Ambrose waited patiently in a company car.
