Felix

I lay in bed stroking Ebony's back as she's snuggled up against me. My heart flutters a little as she sighs and presses herself against me even further, she really is beautiful. I smooth her hair out, her soft dark strands falling between my fingers. I sigh and gently move her off of me, grabbing the blanket and making sure she's covered and warm before kissing her forehead and grabbing my clothes. I scribble on a piece of paper and leave the note on her pillow so she doesn't think I have left her willingly again. I have so much work to do, the pack is getting restless and they've all been a little frustrated with me and my recent calls. I know they're wondering how long they have to pity me for the death of Layla. I turned my back on the pack for awhile there and I know I need to start cracking down or we won't survive what's coming for us.
Aaron my Beta approaches me covered in sweat and out of breath. "What's the news on the border"? Aaron puts a finger up to tell me to hold on as he catches his breath. After a few more deep breaths he says, "The south end of the border had been compromised by the Blood Moon Pack, but we were able to get it under control. I'm not sure if we can handle another attack like that again Felix. If they did that much damage to the south end of the border there is no telling what they can do if they come at us from all sides. I'm telling you we need to reach out to another pack and get help or we won't have a pack anymore." I run a hand through my hair frustrated. I don't understand why or how any of this is going on. We have never had any issues, if we did they were resolved with a treaty. No bloodshed and no fuss. "I know Aaron, I'm just not sure who to ask for help. Plus it's a huge risk for the other pack. What's to stop Blood Moon from attacking the other packs that try to help us? The pack is massive and still growing, where are they getting these numbers?" Aaron walks around in a circle, his nerves and frustration very apparent. "I don't know boss, what was his reasoning for killing Lay-" Aaron's words fall short and he glances at me nervously. A slight pang hits my chest at the almost mention of her name, but I answer him anyways. "They want power Aaron, that's all they want. Aerix the Alpha will do anything to get more power and land. He killed her to get to me, we have to find his weak spot." Aaron nods his head in agreement and breathes a sigh of relief that I didn't explode on him for mentioning Layla's name.
"So why did you freak out the other night when I brought in the new wolf Ebony"? I tense at his question but give him a smirk, "That isn't for you to know just yet." Aaron smiles wearily and says, "You know I had to walk back with her from the woods. She couldn't shift into her wolf." My eyes go wide at his words, I've heard stories about losing your wolf after a traumatic experience but I always thought they were myths. "Hm, I didn't know that was real" I said to Aaron, he nods his head. "Well I'm gonna be in my study if you guys need anything else just let me know. Next time the border gets attacked tell me so I can help. No way we're going down without a fight. I'm gonna make some calls and see who is willing to fight beside us." Aaron nods and bows before walking off.

There's no way anyone will be willing to help us with something like facing Aerix's pack. It's a suicide mission. I run my hands through my hair stressed to the max. All I want to do is curl up with Ebony and forget about it all. That thought surprised me honestly. I groan and put my head in my hands. What am I gonna do James? James huffs. Guess he's no help right now either. Guess I better make some calls.
