Alex's POV

I drove my car back to La Push slowly, my mind trying to make sense of what had happened at the Cullen house. I hadn't even known them for a full day, and already, something freaky had happened.

Who was that Edward guy? Why did he look at me like he had seen a ghost? And why the hell did he call me Alyssa? I'd never even met him before. Trust me; I'd remember someone as pale as him.

Which brought me to my next question: Why were the Cullens so pale? And why did they have golden eyes?

I shook my head, pulling up in front of my house. I shuddered. I was already calling Sam's house my house. That's just wrong.

I parked my car easily, taking the keys out of the ignition and just sitting there for a few moments, trying to collect myself.

I was scared out of my mind when someone said, "Hey, Alex!"

"Ah!" I jumped. I glared at Embry, the person who had scared me. "Damnit, Embry! You scared the hell out of me!"

"Sorry," He apologized, grinning sheepishly. "I just heard your car and got overly excited. I didn't mean to scare you."

"Of course not," I said, shaking my head. I got out of my car, shutting the door behind me. "But I guess it's okay."

"Great," He grinned. Suddenly, he wrinkled his nose. "Ew, Alex, did you forget to take a shower this morning? You reek!"

"Huh?" I said, confused. I, being myself, sniffed my shirt. "Embry, I smell like roses. What's up with your nose?"

His nose wrinkled again. "Nothing. Nothing at all," He muttered, but I knew he was lying. "Anyway, Emily made this huge dinner, since this is the one night that we're all going to be together. We were waiting for you. Come on."

I nodded, letting him lead me into the house. Sure enough, gathered around the table were all the guys and Leah. Emily was placing food dishes onto the table, and Sam was smacking the guys' hands away. Leah looked like she was about to barf, and I raised my eyebrow at that.

Jacob was the only one who saw that, and he mouthed, "I'll tell you later." I only shook my head, looking away.

Like I was going to forgive him for the whole Bella incident. Yeah, right.

"Hey, guys," I said, grinning at everyone besides Jacob. "Sorry I'm late."

They all looked at me with smiles, but when they sniffed the air, their noses scrunched up.

I sighed. "Did you guys practice that nose thing, or is it just a habit?" I asked.

"A little bit of both," Quil said with a grin. "But, seriously, take a shower."

"Because that's just what every girl wants to hear," I said flatly, and he grinned in response. "Anyway, I'm gonna change. I'll be back in a second!"
